It could be worth scannning them in and putting on the GR photo board. You never know, someone might recognise them and be related without either of you knowing. I have confirmed a link with a few on GR as we have the same photos of our Great Grandparents, each believing we had the only copy! Good luck, Jacky :-)

Try this site for starters, well, if the pics are 'old': www.cartes.freeuk(.)com Remove the brackets. I've found it quite useful. Regs Annie

You could google date photograph and it will bring up a plethera of sites that show you the clothes of the era. Some of the sites will let you email them a photo for dateing. alternaivelu. Yor Family Tree (YFT) mag doe photogrph dateing so they could be an option.

where or how do i get photos dated? (sorry if this sounds dumb).

Might it be worth having the photo dated? it might help narrow down who the subjects are. e.g. if the photo is c.1915 and you know that only 2 couples married within a few years either side you will have narrowed down who they are, also there could be a clue in what they are wearinf as to what they did.

the medals belong to either dads dad or mums dad - they do say on the boxes. my dad was only in ta for a short time. its the photos that are a real mystery. there's a wedding one, and about half dozen of just people.

Amy, Ah-ah! Loads of hard work ahead, I'm afraid. Through tracing the family history, you should be able to make some educated guesses. The medals ought to be easy, loads of people know about medals - even by googling, you ought to be able to discover something. You can also, as next of kin, get your father's military records from the Army Staff Section (not sure what you do for Navy or RAF). These photos are priceless, please make sure you preserve them - scan them so you have a good digital image and then store the originals safely. Good luck. Regs Annie

hi, i have recently found a box of old photos (since my dad died). i asked my nan on mums side and she was able to tell me a few of them but some she thinks are from my dads side as they are no-1 she knows. me and my sis are the only living relatives of my dad and we are too young to know any one in the pics. is there anywhere or anyone that may be able to help identify who they are? i cant see that my parents would have had old photos in a box with family medals and bibles if they weren't of the fa,ily. amy
