Sounds good Theresa, unfortunately, the track record of this government seems to be 'let's have an idea and not follow it through'. As the system stands, children who are not academic are sidelined and not allowed to take exams in case they lower the League Tables - so they have spent 5 years in secondary education for what?? To make them stay on for another 2 years is akin to torture. maggie

I don't object so much if they are allowed to train for a career but I don't think they should be made to stay at school til they are eighteen because I agree with I think it was Maggie who said that they would continue to disrupt classes and hinder children who do actually want to learn xx

More hell for non-academic children. Where will they go - are they to be forced to go to 6th form college - where, in their unhappiness, they can disrupt the class for a bit longer? My daughter went to 6th form college and found the lack of disruption from children who didn't want to be there a godsend and a real eye-opener!! maggie

From what i remember they can go into training so I expect that will count apprentiships also young carers are exempt. Was a couple of other ones . But i thought the Teen Mums as they called them was a stupid one to have. Germaine x

Even more Vicky Pollards making a career from child bearing - at the state's expense!!

Saw this on tele and saw some of the exceptions think the one about teen Mums is a bit silly. Now I reckon we will be inundated with single young mums. Some kids hate school and it will be a way out. not sure if it is a good thing or not. Germaine x

They are exempt from it are they Germaine?? That REALLY is daft !!! Have I misunderstood. Is it that they have to stay on at school til they are 18 or can they go and do something like an apprenticeship? xx

Apparently they intend to enforce it by witholding driving licenses - more illegal drivers on the road I think!!!

Ridiculous plan. They should be lowering the age as most of them lose interest by the time they are 14 and they would be better off starting apprenticeships part time or something rather than continuing to try to educate pupils who have no desire to continue. xx

I stated on an earlier thread so that means that potentially one could be legally married with 2 children and still at school!!!!
