I have to tell you this. You will probably recall that I spoke about 3 SMITH brothers who served in ww1. 1 survived and 2 died. Whilst at Kew a short while ago I researched the CWGC and Soldiers who died in Great War sites looking for details of the 2 who died. As you can imagine there were quite a few Smiths. So bearing this in mind I looked at ones who were in the same regiment and came from the same areas as the one who survived. Unfortunately no parents names were given. It was at this point that I picked out of the blue 2 that looked good to me and kind of adopted them as my Great Uncles. I have continued my research into the 2 I picked and someone from another site actually visited the cemetary where one was listed as buried. He managed to find a grave stone and sent me the pictures too. I have since received their death certificates (no parents mentioned there either) and also found both their birth certificate refs. With this information I emailed the Wakefield Register office asking is they would be able to tell me if they were related. Today they came back to me saying 'As you supplied me with all the correct information in the first place I don't see that there's any problem with my confirming that they did have the same parents'. Therefore no matter what names you are researching sometimes it is correct to go with your first instincts. I AM OVER THE MOON!!!!!!!! |

I wish my Smiths would give me some guidance towards them. I ordered a wrong marriage certificate as all the Smiths seem to marry Mary Ann |

No they don't LLC cos a Mary Ann married one of my rellies, a Woodford! My o.h. is a Smith and his mother was a Brown! Will leave him to do his tree, not married to him so nothing to do with me, don't think he is really interested anyway! Liz |

Well done Fi. It's strange how we sometimes feel drawn to a particular record. Gwyn.... wondering if it also works for Davies and Jones? |

Funny, I must have talked something up cos today received a letter from an 87 year old relative I have only just got back in touch with and she has given me some info on Mary Ann that I didn't know (M.A. is her grandmother, my greatgrandmother) and also info on my ggrandfather, who was a stonemason. Apparently he worked on a Manor at Waddesdon for the Rothchild family. I have been curious about the work he did and wondered whether he had done anything memorable or noteworthy in any way. Will be visiting this relative when I catch up with my cousin in Buckingham in Spring. |
