Apologies if you disagree with this, there is also a petition in favour of the tracking on the same site! Ann Sign and pass it on. it only takes a minute. The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about GBP200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was GBP28 for a rural florist and GBP194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid GBP86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website http://petitions*pm*gov*uk/traveltax/ (repl;ace * with .) Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them all. ann glos |

Sorry Ann, I can't sign. Although I am fed up of this governments sneaked in taxes, this one is different. I have nothing to hide, I have cameras on me wherever I go anyway, in the shops, in the street on the motorways, in the stations....a tracking device won't tell them any more than they already know. If this tax means people will think twice before driving round the corner to get the milk, and believe me there are some, then its all the better for road safety, emissions the environment, and for fitness. OK this is going to hit commercial drivers badly, but they are the ones who add most emissions, causing low level ozone, which is behind much of the increase in asthma, so tough. I have always been behind the 'polluter pays' principle. As for the speeding comment, we already have speed cameras, they dont' stop people speeding, so another big brother type of thing may make people think about what speed they are driving at, thus saving more lives. Sorry, I can't go along with this one. Good luck with it though. |

TW did you read the first line, there is a parallel petition to sign ifyou agree with it. To a point I agree with you regarding speeding especially, but I disagree with having to pay £200 to have the device fitted. And it is going to hit people badly who live out in the country and have no public transport to rely on. Ann Glos |

₪₪Teresa W₪₪ If by 'Commercial Drivers' you mean delivery vehicles, then it is you that pays in the end as the delivery cost is simply added to what you pay for your goods. This is why each time Dear Uncle Gordon increases Diesel fuel tax, prices in the shops and supermarkets go up, not to mention the annoyance of those that have diesel cars as well. |

It is SO easy to say ''If I have nothing to hide''...then let the government follow your every move, every purchase you make, every item you buy is logged, every time you use your plastic!every phone call , every internet site........the list is endless..trust me, you will soon have NOTHING to keep private...... I probably drive less than a mile to work each day but have so much paper work to take that I can't walk and carry it all. As I am on a low wage, to have this sort of device fitted is not financially possible. It would be cheaper for me to give up work. The only peole who would lose out then would be many working parents who's children I care for while they work! Knock on effects need to be considered as someone mentioned with comercial vehicles. Jacky :-) |

I totally object to this tax. Only drive 4 miles to work. Probably only costs the same amount to get the train and only three stops. This is OK during the day but if I am on evenings I don't finish work until 10.30 and the railway station is quiet and deserted. Why should I pay to be safe? Libby |

Technology has become a curse, and reminds me of the saying - be careful what you wish for you might get it. This is something else our electronically-aided lives have brought us. |
