When it rains hard or we get snow we loose all signal, but can still watch the analogue channels, when they are turned off people will not be happy with no signal. |

Not heard that, in fact most radio these days is listened to in cars, rather than at home. Given that we have just had a new radio mast installed at PB we should be OK for the foreseeable. When the time comes all new TV's will have a digital tuner built in so no need to buy a set top 'box' They need to increase the digital TV coverage though as only large conurbations can receive a decent signalat present. Don't forget also that digital is all or nothing. There is no such thing as a 'poor picture' If the signal drops below a certain level it just switches off altogether. Now that will invoke some lively debate when people find they can't see anything at all. |

The 2012 date is for TV only. No date for radio, probably much later. Bob |

no date has yet been issued to switch over radio but I would guess it will be by 2012. If you can't get DAB digital Radio, see if your faviouret stations broudcst online. |

Analogue is beng switched og in stages so you need either Freeview digital box, Free satalite or Free cable. Info below from http://www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk/ Switch of begings in 2008 and ends in 2012 but some areas have already turned of the transmitters. Here is the switch of for ITV reagions 2008 – Border 2009 – West Country, HTV Wales, Granada 2010 – HTV West, Grampian, Scottish Television 2011 – Yorkshire, Anglia, Central 2012 – Meridian, Carlton/LWT (London), Tyne Tees, Ulster In each region, consumers can expect changes to take place over a period of weeks. This could happen as follows: * Messages appear on screen saying that from next month one analogue service (for example BBC TWO) will no longer be available * On the named date, the analogue service stops and the digital multiplex carrying BBC TWO (and also BBC ONE, BBC THREE, BBC FOUR, CBBC, CBeebies) will move to the frequency channel vacated by analogue BBC TWO * Shortly afterwards, messages appear on screen saying that some or all of the other analogue services are about to stop * On the named day, or days, BBC ONE, ITV1, Channel 4 (or S4C in Wales) and Five stop transmitting in analogue, and the multiplexes carrying these digital services move to the frequency channels vacated by the analogue service Hope this Helps Lunar |

Hubby heard that as well. We've got digital radio and one of those freeview boxed downstairs but for the kids we foster their teles will be no good come the dreaded day. Looks like a lot of folk -including pensioners who can ill afford it - will have to fork out for new teles or boxes they might not understand how to use. (I can't use out freeview- not a clue !). |
