Post Office closures & Ebay

Well said Maggie!! I very rarely visit my local Post Office - only to buy stamps - BUT most of the pensioners who live in the village DO use it every week, to cash their pension. We have NO daily bus service, nor a bank, so if our part-time PO (3 sessions a week in a farm building) goes, heaven help a lot of people who do rely on it. And no, they don't go out to town shopping every week by car - most essentials can be got from twice weekly travelling shops. Bit ridiculous to expect OAPs to get a car just to collect money from a bank or a PO 10 miles away. Jay

Hello Brian, I think all I'll do if my local is closed. is to just add the extra cost to the postage and packing, unless of course its not viable to do so. Baz

Peter, I don't go into the PO very often either - not since they closed our local one on the grounds that there was one 'just up the road' - about 2 miles away by road, or a half mile trip up a path called 'Black Path' - for obvious reasons - it's dark & not safe to walk alone!! Anyway, the owner of this 'other' PO retired within 2 weeks of our local closing. We get a bus every half hour to town - if we're lucky - you can guarantee 2 buses a day won't run. When I eventually get to the PO in town the queue is out the door!!! I go to the doctor's even less - but still pay for the local hospital and other facilities - maybe I should not give a damn about that. And if we extend that attitude, why should people who insist on driving their cars to go 100 yards pay council tax towards public transport!! Why should people with no children pay towards education?? I could go on........ maggie

I doubt If I go to a PO more than twice a year. For those who still want them, by all means pay an extra £1 each time you go through the door, but please don't expect the taxpayer to subsidise something that has largely passed its sell by date.

I just wonder if any of these people who are planning further closures of OUR Post Offices. Have ever had to stand in the ever increasing queues week after week ?

I thought they were getting rid of 10,000 out of 17,000, which i think would mean most of the rural branches would go. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Someone local to me would be upset, whenever I go in the PO, there are bags of e-bay parcels which the staff deal with in their free moment.

Hi Brian, Over here, most of my husbands ebay purchases come thru either FedEx or UPS. Isn,t there something similar in England?

Has anyone thought about the implications post office closures will have on ebay, i buy & sell on there , not a lot but it often means i have to make a trip to my local p/o, if they close my local p/o it would mean a long & difficult trip to my nearest large town, which i for one just wouldn't bother, how many more people would feel the same, i think ebay's use would plummit.
