It would probably be better if 'request to view your tree' was altered to read 'request to copy your tree' LOL |

i'm with you Ed. I'd cannot see how something you have given can then be said to be stolen |

I always check the person has a link to my tree and will send them what they need to add to their tree I only let close links see my tree and as they cant see the living relatives they can ask me if its ok as I have permission first to add my living relatives and also if im allowed to pass it on |

true, but if they do, then I certainly won't lose any sleep over it, if they want to have a huge inaccurate tree, then that's their loss, their stupidity |

Yes Paul, but I think that the mistaken assumption is: that the viewer will only take what is relevant to the enquiry,,,,,,,not a tree 'En Masse' Bob |

Same here Jean. Although if I'd taken names from every tree I'd had a definite link to, my tree would be double the size by now ! lol |

I must admit when I allow access to my tree I do so expecting the person will take the names they require. That's why I only allow access where I think there is a link. Jean x. |

I must admit, I can never quite understand the 'I gave him access to my tree and he put STOLE my names!!' comments. Whilst I agree that you shouldn't list living people, and its common courtesy to ask before doing so, I do think the whole point of the site is to help each other. That said, if someone has included names in their tree that shouldn't be there, and GR are contacted to investigate, they should pull their finger out and deal with it, but of course they rarely do because they don't really give a monkeys... |

Personally I think that the whole idea of this site is to share information, what is the point of hot matches if not? If you don't want to share (and I don't mean Living Rellos) make sure that box is ticked, or the other person is not to know that you didn't mean it. I thought it obvious that if you open up your tree to someone to share, they may think that you are giving them the information, maybe they didn't realise that they needed to ask as well? |

I think that there should be some sort of courtesy though |

Yes Ed, but it does say in the T & C's that you mustn't include living people without their permission. Also GR should do something about the ticked box. I think it's a bit sneaky to have it permanently ticked and hidden a bit further down the page where you don't immediatley see it. Also it is only good manners that other members acknowledge your messages and ask permission to add any of your names to their tree. Jeanette x |

if you post your tree on a site such as this, and you have the means to either open your tree to others, or not, then surely it is pointless to complain when names etc are used by others to flesh out their own tree !. |
