You need your mother’s cooperation.

Researchers at the University of Chicago pondered why some folk live to be 100 whilst most don’t. They sifted through the family histories of nearly 1,000 centenarians to see if the data shed any light on the incidence of extreme old age and if centenarians had anything in common. It turned out that first-born children were almost twice as likely to live to be 100. An even more important factor turned out to be how young the mother was at the time of giving birth. Those whose mothers were twenty five or less were twice as likely to survive beyond a century. Naturally, at 82 I have to consider my position. I had two older brothers both of whom died at 83. The oldest was born when my mother was 22. He should have made 100. He wuz robbed! The second was born when ma was 26. I came on the scene when she was 33. Therefore, according to the researchers, my chances are not good. So really, it would be sensible for you all to send your Christmas presents to me now, just in case. Also, I have a birthday due early in the New Year and, if any of you generous folk .......... Len

When I was a teenager, was taken to see an old witch who told fortunes. Regretably, with the arrogance of young male, I laughed at her efforts and annoyed her. She told me I would die at 46. At 45, I wondered about the old lady and if she would prove right. At 47 I decided not - but then, I thought: suppose, in her temper, she had reversed her figures and meant 64? At 63 I waited - but nothing happened. I reached 65 and was still around. Then the penny dropped. I had misheard. She had said 146. That's ok with me ......but she had her revenge..... by making me think of her for over half a century. Never laugh at old ladies who read the tea leaves. len

Often pondered this question - as you do when you reach a 'certain' age - whatever that may be ! I find also the question is 'Who wants to live to a ripe old age' ? and what age is 'ripe' ? At 73 I still feel 23 but the mirror tells me differently. Then there is the question of finance - good income now could be peanuts in ten years time. Maybe above all is Health - do I want to live to be 100 unless I am capable of looking after myself ? There are many other questions too but better they are not voiced.

Joe please say your telling porkies about your age! you don't look anywher near 73 (that's what my grandparents are) - take the 23 from the 73 and your getting closer to the age you look!!!!
