Puss an overlay is a plastic sheet that peeps put over the book to make the words stop jumping or wobbling, They can be blue, green, pink etc. If they work the glasses are the same, my optician I have is very good as both her kids have dyslexia, Caz xxxxx |

Hi Caz My mum had dyslexia which went undetected for over 20 years. She left school being barely able to read or write, she was really good at maths but when she went to write anything down, she couldn't do it. She could just about manage to read childrens books and they had to have large print. When she was 48 she joined a night school where they finally diagnosed she had dyslexia. She was prescribed coloured specs and they made a world of difference. A year after her diagnosis she past her gcse maths and english. We were so proud of her and she could finally fill forms in for herself without feeling ashamed. There is so much help for dyslexics now, your son will get all the help he needs. best wishes to you and your family Jackie xx |

Just a tip that I use in class when teaching those who have this condition. When I write and phoptocopy work sheets, I put a border around the page. It 'contains' the text and makes it easier to read. The eyes do not wander off of the page. Somehow, the border stops the eyes from wandering. |

Caz My mum was a clever woman but because she had problems reading it made her feel very insecure and ashamed, but she was really creative, brilliant at sewing and knitting. She could make up her own patterns no problem. Your son will find his niche. There is a society for dyslexics that may be able to help you find out what can be done for your son and might help you financially they should have a website. Jackiex |
