Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 13 Nov 2006 18:09

B****y Nora £25k! I could afford a few grand but not that much. That's obscene. I've lost a bottom front tooth and three others are wobbling. I find that very embarassing. Trouble with me is I can't keep my mouth shut. Do love talking! Maybe I can get a false set from a lucky bag! Aileen xxx

Hi Margaret, Veeners cant replace lost tooth gaps, have you tried one the the good quality tooth whitening pastes like Blanc or Bev Hills,it takes about a month to see positive results, just use twice a day with gentle brush,,,or visit your dentist to have it done with solution, Kay,

might be best to go for a consultation-so you can see what needs doing-she only got em done cos she came into some money and they will last the rest of her life really-she had a private dentist in Manchester suppose it depends on how may you have done. It can be very exprensive. good luck but don't let it put you off. you can always sign up for one of those programmes where thy do it for you for nowt-10 yrs younger I think it's called.lol. catherine xx

NOPE but many moons ago I had a front tooth capped cos it got broke in an accident when i was in my teens. Many moons later it developed a black line as the gum receded. Was a source of real embarrassment as it looked 'bad' because it had a black line on the gum line and the backing was gold. It finally sorted itself because the stump inside the cap started to rot and the cap got loose. It cost me mega bucks but i got it removed and a bridge put in to cover the top front teeth

Ye Gods Catherine - I certainly can't muster up 25K. I had hoped I could get the six done for about £200-300 each making a total of about 2K but 25K is well beyond my means.......... if it turns out to be that expensive I'll just have to keep my mouth shut !!!

Thank you everyone. Yvonne - I did think about the whitening process but quite honestly the general appearance with gaps where there never used to be any is really bugging me and making me very self-conscious and embarrassed. If it wouldn't cost too much for 6 teeth, then I am going to dip into my savings and have it done. The next step of course is finding a reputable dentist or have a recommendation from someone. Thanks again

I have a veneer on one of my teeth. It was done about ten years ago and I'm pretty sure it cost about £50 at the time. My tooth was becoming discoloured after root canal treatment and the veneer was recommended to me by my dentist who said it would last the rest of my life. I've been very pleased with it.

my mother in law has had this done-cost her a fortune I mean like £25k plus but it was worth it-her teeth look fab and she has a strict regime about looking after them you have to clean them with special floss-Have regular check particular in the first few months of having them done-She had crowns always falling out-Think she just had the top one's done. catherine xx

What about this other thing they do at dentists, like bleaching where you were a gum sheild at night and it cleans your teeth to brilliant white, dont know how much it cost but my friend had it done. Could ask your dentist about that as that could be cheaper as well.

Margaret I have a discoulored front tooth where half of it is capped. My dentist said they could colour it for me and would be about £30 a tooth. When I went last time I was offered it again but as it doesn't bother me isnt worth it. I know its not veneers but might be a cheaper and easier option than veneers

Margaret I haven't, but a friend had her front teeth veneered about 10 years ago (so, yes, you can). However, she is now 56 and her gums are receding, leaving her with an ugly, discoloured line where the veneer doesn't reach to the gum. Her Dentist has told her she needs to wait about another 5 years to have them removed and new veneers put on (I think this is to make sure the new veneers are not wasted, because her gums will carry on receding for a few years yet). My friend paid megabucks (£2000) but that was 10 years ago - may be cheaper OR dearer now, I don't know. I don't know this, but suspect a Dentist would also insist on replacing your missing teeth as well - more cost. OC

had cosmetic dentistry - specifically veneers done? I know this has to be done privately and is expensive but wondered whether anyone knew the rough cost. I saw a photo of myself taken at the weekend and I was horrified. What used to be a nice set of teeth in my youth are now discoloured and because of losing teeth further back in my mouth, my front ones now have gaps between. I knew they didn't look good but seeing this photograph has taken what little bit of confidence I had away. I feel like I dare not laugh or smile now. Anyway, I have thought all day about this and am seriously considering veneers - particularly on the top front six teeth. Can you say you only want the front ones done - what is the procedure - anyone know? Be grateful for any info
