Lack of burial space Nationwide problem!!!! On the Politics Show today, apparently they are looking at requesting graves 75yrs old with any living relatives permission to be shared, how does that work two headstones or what!??? But one cemetery in London 'WOODGRANGE' they have sold off a large part of it to developers to build 200 flats, talk about hypocrites, the sad sight was headstone after headstone stacked like playing cards, what is going to happen to these headstones and how will people searching their ancestors burial place be able to find them ??? The reporter said it's common trend for many graveyards to sell of areas of land to developers! Either they have a problem with lack of burial space or they don't, seems to me as though it's a case of double dealing ???? I think it's an absolute disgrace, something needs to be done about it?? |

One of our local churches got into a state of disrepair, so they decided to church share with another local church. The orginal church got even worse, so was decided to pull it down. However this church also have a graveyard around it. But even so they decided to place an flats on part of the site. Where the church stood is now a memorial, the flats are to one side and their gardens are the remainder of the graveyard!!!! |

My father bought a burial plot, which has only 25 years lease on it. He obviously thought that was long enough for him, so I have no problems with the grave being reused when the time comes. He was buried 250 miles from where I live, and I only tend his grave once a year, so you can see that it is not a significant place for me. Personally, I find burial a distressing option for myself and have opted for cremation. It is also true that most Churchyards used and reused the same graves over centuries, as space ran out. If every person who had ever lived, was buried in a separate grave, the whole country would be one mass of graves. OC |

yes how do they contact any living rellies? Especially if the graves are 75 years old. Do they not know that each one of those graves could have loads of living rellies. GRand children and great grandchildren. Well some might agree and some might not so who gets the casting vote........? When my brother died his girlfriend reserved a place for herself with him but within weeks of his funeral she had a new boyfriend and was living with him so guess she does not need to be buried with my brother. Often wonder if I could claim it for when my mum is ready to go...... |

My grandfather is under a block of flats! New Southgate cemetery in North London sold off land about 20 years ago and built a housing estate on it. Kim |
