Brenda, I am sorry to hear about your husband's illness, but totally disgusted at the treatment you received on your journey home. You must have felt powerless and so angry. I hope they will give you a big apology and compensation for all the distress you both went through. ((hugs)) to both of you. Sue x |

Just to add that when I broke my leg in Corfu in July I was treated perfectedly with wheelchair, crane to get me on the plane etc. Once back at Stansted I was met with a wheelchair to take me from the plane to passport control, then to the coach...if Stansted can do it smoothly then Heathrow has no excuse. Grrrrrr! |

Brenda, I am so sorry to learn about your husband's illness-you must both be in total shock after all that has happened. I was also cross reading your blow by blow account and you are probably livid after your airport ordeal. I really hope you get some apologies or compensation for what you have both been through. I know you can't undo what occurred but at least if someone was accountable for the disgusting treatment then it would be something. Hugs to you both, Aileenx |

Brenda, I am so sorry to hear of your husband's illness. The treatment you got at Heathrow was appalling and I do hope you will make a big fuss, you should contact the newspapers and/or Watchdog, or a similar programme. Will be thinking about you. Liz |

Oh I feel for you. My daughter was in a wheel chair for two years. We travel a lot & never had a problem until you return home to the UK. It was always disorganised & always made you feel gulity for asking in the first place ! Make sure you write & complain to the relevant people. Maybe the press would like to hear your story? |

Whilst we were on holiday in Australia my Husband spent 3 weeks in hospital and was diaganosed as having pneumonia, a pulmonary embolism and inoperable cancer On Thursday we left Adelaide accompanied by a doctor provided by our travel insurance company all arrangements had been made for wheelchair assistance and help with transfers. We flew from Adelaide to Melbourne, Melbourne to Hong Kong and everything went smoothly with efficient help from the airport staff , We then flew from Hong Kong to Heathrow and and encountered total disregard and inefficiency There was no wheelchair assistance they said that the only way to access the plane to was for him to walk after lengthy arguments one was provided in terminal 4 we needed to proceed to terminal one we were taken to the point to catch the transfer bus ,they then said the wheel chair couldn't go on the bus but there would one at terminal 1.My husband had to stand in a crowded bus arrived at terminal 1 no wheelchair another lenthgy argument staff stilll insisted he would have to walk DR said no way Eventually got one, at all the other airports we had been taken to a special area to go through security and all checks were made Not at Heathrow went through normal security they confiscated my husbands flight bag with his injections and medication and all the doctors equipment because they contained dangerous Items they wouldn't listen to reason so another another lenghty argument took place. we then found out that only me had been booked on on the plane so another lenthgy discussion took place eventually it was sorted We then went to the area to go on the lift to take us to the right gate and the lift was broken down The usual argument about walking took place yet again, eventually transport was provided and he was taken onboard the flight to Manchester by a lift The plane staff were really nice and although the seats that had been alloted were all on different rows told us to sit together on oa row and made us some coffee and they explained to the people who should have been sitting on the seats the situation and they were quite amicable about it On arrival in Manchester everything went smoothly there was a wheelchair and assistance awaiting us and friendly staff We got to baggage reclaim and found that our luggage had not been put on the plane, filled some forms in and our luggage was delivered to our home address at 10 am this morning There used to be a saying what Manchester does today London will do tomorrow I think Heathrow would benefit from tuition from Manchester airport in dealing with security arrangements and staff training but then it might tax their brains too much and the result woulld be even more inefficiency Bren |
