i have received a message from a guy called 'Peter'. He was replying to mine which asked him if his family name was from a certain part of the country ( THAT IS ALL I ASKED ). His message back to me was this : If interested I can send a GED.COM File to you by mail. It is too large to send by e-mail. Please just send 10.00 dollars to cover postage, mailer, disc and handling to my address: Included is a name and address . What do you guys think ? Any one else had message like this ? Am i reading to much into this ? Connie

Call me cynical but the fact he's asking for money makes me suspicious.

Hi Connie, I would be a bit careful as it must be a huge file if it can not be sent by e-mail. I do not really understand computers or e-mails but have just received my Gedcom file, which contains over 1000 names and it was only a small file. I am sure others will give you more advice. Beryl x

There's no way a ged is too large to send by email unless it has millions of names on it. Most emails allow 1mb, some allow 2. My tree, with over 4000 people in it, is only 0.01mb as a ged. Sounds very sus to me - especially asking for 10. It only costs a maximum of 3 to send a CD by post, even from America.

There are plenty of sites (eg mailbigfile) that allow you to send big files via links. Sounds like a con. Many allow 10mb attachments anyhow Bob

I'd be very wary about giving this person your address......let alone sending him money! Reg

I bet it's that guy from One World Tree with 55,000 names in his tree! Or wait - didn't we have an unashamed name collector on here a while ago? But I wouldn't part with any money - a genuine person would have replied, yes, I have Bloggs from Mudwick too - who are yours? OC

Well i have received an e-mail from the Genes support team to say they have removed him from the site as nobody is allowed to ask for money on here.
