Tara That's called premonition. Establishing the reality of one or any of these 'extra' senses is difficult but it commands real support and I read recently that some 68% of people claim to have had some experience of the para-normal. I wouldn't mind betting that most couples who have 'pair-bonded' have experienced telepathy. There is growing evidence, from a wide variety of academic sources studying the brain and the nervous system, that extra sensory perception does exist. It certainly makes sense from the point of view of survival of a fairly weak species. Many scientists probably would prefer that proof is not found, certainly in their lifetimes, as many of the assumptions and so-called laws of the physical sciences would have to be scrapped and maybe their livelihoods affected. If e.s.p. exists in one form or another, current theories on the non-material and exotic components of the universe (96% of it comprises 'dark matter') including quantum mechanics become more plausible. len

Catherine that has happened with me... What happens almost everyday with me though....is almost like seeing things before they happen...but there little things unimportant....example today.... My daughter of 9mths had crawled over to my living room window to pull herself up to standing on three occasions today. The first & second time like always she picks up a small wooden frame a puts it on the floor along with the candle thats up there also. On the third occasion which was hours later after her bath. I put her on the floor to have a crawl and immediately in my mind almost if im saying it too myself 'take the frame away, she's going to break it this time'...as always I ignore these thoughts or whatever they are and carry on regardless but they always happen. She crawled over to the frame pulled it down and it didnt break.....but then as she aimed for the candle to pick it up I said Isabella no darling....she dropped the candle right on top of the frame and the glass broke. Also i have things like a few weeks ago my better half, my daughter and I went out in the car and when i got in the car ...I had this feeling something wasnt right with the car....i said to my fiancee have you checked over the car lately, water, tyres, oil?? he said yes there fine....i didnt tell him i thought something was going to go wrong...and then a few hours later on the way home, part of the exhaust come loose and dragged along the road until we stopped. Lucky it wasnt a few minutes earlier as we would of been on the A2 still doing 70mph!!

Caz I think that most closely bonded people have experienced telepathy. I know that Mary and I do it all the time. Experiments have shown that the most adept are identical twins. After reading a couple of Carl Sagan's books,(notably 'Dragons of Eden' on the evolution of the human brain), I wrote to him at Cornel University and asked why he ignored such phenomena as telepathy and hypnotism. I specifically raised a common experience of mine, staring absentmindedly at the back of someone's head and that person suddenly turning and making direct eye-contact. I had a reply from his 'First Personal Assistant', Pearl Druyen (who later I found out to be Mrs Sagan) who had personally experience this, admitting that such phenomena existed but proving it was a different matter. She said Dr sagan would get round to it but unfortunately he died. Len

Boro Babs et al. These things concerning the mind are more than theory and are the subject of published scientific papers. As always with the human race, though, most minds are closed except to received cultural wisdom passed down from previous generations. For those disposed to serious reading, google:- Prof. Robert Jahn Dean Emeritus Engineering and Applied Science. The power of the mind to influence machines Jahn & Dunne on remote perception. Dr Stephan Schmidt, Freiburg University. Paper published in The British Psychological Journal re Distant Intentionality (telepathy) Dr V.P Lommel. Rijnstate Hospital, Holland. Near Death Experience Prof. J.B.Rhine . The Reach of the Mind. To quote from Denis Postle. psychologist, psychotherapist and author ' the human mind is perhaps more complex, more intricate, more subtle than any other known entity; perhaps it is the most extraordinary object in the whole universe'. len

The worst thing was - 'what do i tell my 5 & 6 year old sons?'. Read up what I could - this was pre-internet (1988). Said ' dads brain has been hurt and needs to rest for a while'. Only good thing I can say is my GP was great (listened to me rant and rave) and that I met the most wonderful Roman Catholic Priest called Father O'Leary (I am C of E and hubby was an Athiest(!!) !!. National Health Service could not provide care so hubby went into hospice ('Jospice') in Thornton, Liverpool, can not praise enough. Father O'Leary intoduced himself to me in the relatives room in local hospital and offered me a fag and a swig from his hip flaskl (LOL). What a man - my hero !!. Loads I could say - only glad hubby did not wake up properly in Jospice (don't forget he was an Athiest) in Jospice becuase there were loads of holy pictures about and Father O'Leary 'blessed' him at least three times a day!!. LOL. As I say - a subject close to my heart Libby xx

Libby that must have been hard for you to go through with your late husband. I have read about this fact that Len talks about, and wish more could be found out about this vegative state situation to help the patient and their family.

Libby Report 24 Sep 2006 00:15

This is a subject close to my heart. My first husband died 5 months after a car accident. In all that time I was told he would never recover. Not brain dead - but in a vegative state. Was told by a consultant 'these people' (how I hated that phrase) can live for 20 years in this state but we can withhold medication if you wish'. As If!! During those 5 months I knew he could hear because of his responses to the food trolley (!!) plus various tapes that he heard. He even got out of bed 4 months after his accident. Not enough is known. about this condition - even today. My husband died from a chest infectionj (pneumonia. sp?). A common thing with 'these people'. Only good thing I can say he would have hated to be in that state (unable to communicate) as he was a very active man. I could go on all night about this. Sorry about the rant. Libby xx

An unconscious and outwardly unresponsive woman with serious brain damage has been able to communicate by the power of her thoughts alone.

Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 23 Sep 2006 23:12

A study published in 'Science' this month reveals the extraordinary power of brain scanners to diagnose the extent of brain damage and also the power of the mind. A remarkable brain scan experiment has for the first time revealed awareness and consciouness in a person who has been diagnosed by doctors as being vegetative. The method used suggested that not only could the crash victim play tennis in her head when asked and was really listening when family at her bedside talked to her but could , in theory, be used to let her communicate with the outside world. The study was undertaken at Cambridge MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, 5 months after a 23-year-old woman emerged from a coma, during which she appeared to be asleep, and opened her eyes but gave no sign of awareness. The team say that the scan showed that she was aware of what was being said to her and that her mind could react although she gave no physical sign of it. The 'Science' team is uneasy about several things but mostly how the families of vegetative patients will react to the discovery that a patient who is physically unresponsive and fulfils all the criteria for a diagnosis of a vegetative state could possibly have an inner mental life. Len (Sooner or later this will have a connection with other scientific theories on consciousness being other than a brain function.)
