My favourite dog!!! Don't celebrate pet birthdays (wouldn't have known them anyway as all have been rescued) but there simply MUST be a Christmas pressie - and always some treats wrapped in wrapping paper when we had our boxer. It's those eyes!!! You just can't resist them!!! |

have always had rescue dogs all my life, their rescue day was always their bithdays. My parents had Jeanie 'heinze Variety' when I was small, then Heidi the lakeland terrior (she devil who bit everyione apart from me) Rolly the Afgan hound(had been shaved when we got him as he was matted and had been ill treated. was scared of men with beards) then Charlie, the overweight goggled eyed cavalier king charles( owners had gone into a nursing home) we got him after my dad died, had been in the kennels for months..bless. got to the grand age of 15 before he earnt his angel wings acouple of months ago....devestating !!! There is nothing in the dog world quite like a boxer. I have lived with them almost continuously for over 50 years. Last two were sisters. One departed just before Christmas, and her twin in May. So devastating that we have said no more. I wonder if we will stick to it. We said it twelve years ago too. September 12th was the birthday of my first boxer. I had him when I was nine, in 1953.... His birthday treat was always a pound of best fillet steak, and a packet of digestive biscuits. He also ate hats, handbags, anything he could steal from the larder including on one occasion a 3lbs. bag of flour and a slab of suet. The flour bag he carried upstairs, a telltale trail of white. He returned for the suet and buried it down the back cushions of his favourite chair. Grease and floury footprints everywhere. Eileen |
