My grand-daughter is now at secondary school and it seems the Internet is something that she wishes they had at home to help with school-work etc. I am going to pay for it for a year for them and was going to get in touch with Tiscali who charge apparently 14.99 per month for the same thing that BT charge about 23.00. I happened to mention Tiscali to d-i-l and she said she had heard bad reports about them and you could never get them for support when you needed them. Has anyone out there got Tiscali as their provider and what experience have you had with them. I don't want to tie them into Tiscali for 12/18 months (or whatever the contract is) and them have problems with them, but cann ot really afford nearly double for BT. Thanks

I'm on Toucan (dot) (com), £14.99 a month, free modem, connection within a couple of days, and once you have received modem you are ready to go. (with Wannado I had to wait 14 days after connecting the modem.) I never have a problem with Toucan, and also pay my phone bill with them, including line rental. They have some good mobile packages too. I didn't get on with Tiscali, and BT was overpriced IMO

Hi Margaret We tried Tiscali first but sent the modem back within the 15 days allowed because we didn't get on with it. We have BT which has been brilliant but is expensive, so we have been toying with changing to Talk Talk. Our friend has it and is very happy with it and I believe that it's quite cheap. Chrissie x

I haven't heard many good reports about Talk Talk, in fact anyone I've spoken to has said it is rubbish and wish they hadnt signed up for it.

I've been with Tiscali over 12 months now and have had no problems with them whatsoever. I have had no need to call their customer service or support so can't comment on how good that is! Sam x

There are a number of web sites which compare prices and level of service. Google 'broadband comparison'

I've got Talk Talk,as well as free Broadband you get all your calls to Europe,America,Australia,Canada and NZ free. The modem was picky about which computer it went on,but my sister got Tiscali at the same time as me and kept getting messed about, customer services never answering.

i've just gone on to Talk Talk international, £20 a month, all landline calls free (inc abroad), line rental, and broadband, BARGAIN! have only had it a week, but can honestly say i'm pretty impressed. when its quick it's like lightening, but it does have its moments and can be really slow, usually about 9pm, lol have just changed over from freeserve/wanadoo/orange dial up anytime, never had any problems with them £14.99 a month, but when i tried their broadband, it wouldn't stay connected for more than a minute !!!! so had to scrap them and go back to dial up anytime. I have several friends on Tiscali including one who uses it for business - all are very happy. My sister has BT and I would not recommend it to anybody. I also heard they are one of the top 3 in terms of 'bad service' from broadband providers. I am currently with Virgin on diallup and am in the process of upgrading to broadband - the £14.99 basic package. I placed the order on friday and since then have had daily updates on progress and today my activation date was confirmed as 21 Sept with my free starter kit to arrive before then. So if it all works out that's precisely one week between ordering and being up and running. Fingers crossed! Angela
