Knowing the justice system in this country, I'd say yes, it could be true !! On the other hand she could just be saying that - how would she know at this early stage whether or not he will go to prison. I hope he does though. Stella |

Nope, he won't. Points on his licence, prob disqualified for a year and maybe a fine..........but no prison. Prisons are overflowing again since Tony Blair brought in a lot of new laws and measures...........so more out than in.....was going to make political statement but I don't do political debate.....ooo....was that a flying pig???. Its not on is it and the general public wonder why in some pockets of the country we have vigilante groups. Now I am not saying this is right BUT when i first came to N.Ireland there was a case reported in the paper not disimilar to yours Joy and he got off scott free ....... so he thought........ the paramilitry groups got together to show this lad and others that he could not and will not get away with it........they crucified him LITERALLY to a cross upside down , a lesson to all.............. guess what it hasn't happened since in that neck of the woods and it was a regular occurance for quite a while!! |

anything is possible these days. we were burgled two years ago. The culprit was caught. He was an escaped convict. He had simply walked our of an open prison. What really frightened me was he was serving nine years for GBH!! |

Hi Joy All I can say to this one is that in my 20 odd years in the Met , I dealt with many such cases ...... the results .... depended mainly on whether the subjects lawyers took it to Crown court or allowed it to be heard at magistrates court. Crown court of course meant a jury ..... and a stiffer sentence if found guilty... so it was a gamble on the part of the defendant ... take it to mags court ... perhaps get found guilty and get 3 months OR take it to Crown court and get a jury ... who might find you innocent or might find you guilty and the judge gives you a year.
