Hi Gr. Jim, not sure when he was there, but my Dad spent time in Malta. All I know is he was there for some time and loved it! Believe he was in the Navy? Nanna-M :)

Wonder if my Dad was there same time as your Grandad Karen? Think my Dad was in communications, but I don't know what rank he was? Never used to talk about it much. Apart from how much fun he had in Malta.......and his ship being torpedoed? Nanna-M :)

my Grandad was on the guns on board ship at some point and was a leading seaman. i have his Naval records from when he entered Greenwich as a 12 yr old,it makes interesting reading. btw--looks like they could have had fun judging by the photos, always a drink in their hands

He told us they sat and read the newspapers by moonlight 'cos it was as bright as day at midnight!! Think he loved that place.....with things they got up too! I understood it was a bit chaotic out there and they couldn't keep tabs on everyone.....so they had a great time......he always had a gleam in his eye whenever it came up in conversation! Nanna-M :) (Wish I had asked more questions now and listened more!)

Jane-that was a perilous journey, bet you were glad to get back home safely. What an awful time for everybody. Shame your Dad had to go back. lol-Lynn!! Think my Dad would have gone back, but couldn't get my Mum on a boat of any kind and the idea of flying no too popular either! Nanna-M :)

My Dad was an LAC in the RAF. He and a mate were diving for a Bomb shelter when one went off. He had shrapnel remains in his body for the rest of his life. I have just borrowed a book from the Library called Spitfires over Malta. As usual it is all about the Pilots, and not a word about the Ground Crews who kept them flying.

That would be interesting Jane.............wish I had more info about it... Don't think any of my rellies in RAF Jim, but not 100% sure, they never talked about the war and what they did much, not that I remember anyway..... Nanna-M :)
