When I first becaome a Grandma 11 years ago, my Daughter was unmarried and I went and stayed at her flat for the first three days. She has since married the Father btw. When my next three Grandsons were born I lived 230 miles away and went down soon after. My first Grandaughter just three weeks old, was born up here to my Sons Girlfriend, they have a home together and I have only visited half a dozen times as her Mum lives nearer. I must say I have found it very strange. Worried about giving too much advise as I am a little old fashioned and out of date with babies now. Jenny. x |

It cuts both ways I guess, when my first grandchild was born in 1980 our daughter ,our only child, wanted Mum there when she came out of hospital. But when our granddaughter was born in 1983 in Germany she felt more at ease and didnt want me to over to help. we saw our granchild at the Christmas aged six weeks and she was so proud to be showing her to her Nanny & Grandad. Our kids make their own little family unit & sometimes feel more cacooned if they are left alone with their spouse & the new arrival to get to know the new arrival I,m sure she doesn't mean to upset you & will so proud to show off the new arrival in her own time |

It's so far away, as you are....The other grandparents and all the rest of SILs family live nearby and I'm up here in the wilds... Her father is still down there, he is a bit miffed with her as well, even though we have been divorced for years we are still on good terms...Son thinks I am making a fuss... But it is true OHs much more hands on now... |

My Mum doesnt live that far away but didnt want her to stay. I suppose as OH are more involved now there is not a need for a third pair of hands. The only time friends have had parents to stay is when they have had twins!!! |

When I had my children in the 70s, my mum came to stay for a few days because I wanted my mum...and because she wanted to help. Daughter says they want to be on there own...:-( I am 600 miles away.... I am not usually a miserable person, as you know, but am hurt.. What is your experience ? |
