Hi Melanie, I know what you mean, you just feel like your whole body is too hot to cope and it is not coming out in perspiration, but boiling over inside! I have had that a lot (am 59) but altho I tried black cohosh and whatever the other one is, (my memory is failing me) and also had HRT for a while, I personally can't say any of them helped that much, but luckily the episodes are getting fewer. I am sure if this thread gets nudged you will get some replies during the day time here and you can pick them up later. Sorry I can't help, hope your power surges wane soon too. Liz |

Thanks, I'm only 45 but my mum went through it at 40. Its not too bad and at the moment, i only get them at night, but as its winter, its a nuisance. I wake up and throw all the bedclothes off, then wake up freezing! Oh the joys of being a woman eh? lol |

Yes, Melanie, those joys go on and on, if it's not pmt it's pregnancy, and then for good measure, in case we don't know when to count our blessings, it's the blooming change! Some people say a change is as good as a rest, I would dispute that!! lol Take care. |

Sorry I cant help Melanie. I didnt have any great problems at all. I did go through a short spell of thinking I was a little cold so would put on a cardi and a few mins later I felt a wee bit too warm so would take it off again, but not what I would call troublesome. And not at night. I did go to some sessions on the menopause as I thought it might be still ahead of me and was blown away by the things some of the women said. Getting up several times in the night to change the sheets. Having panic attacks in church and having to run out. I said I felt like a fraud being at these sessions but the woman running it said it was good to hear the wide range of effects. I cant remember if she gave advice on how to control these things. I didnt need to know. Perhaps you can find a clinic (I think it was the family planning one in Papakura) where they hold these sessions. Best of luck anyway. I am 70 now, my big problem is dry skin, itching. I have to constantly apply baby oil or moisturising cream. |

Wild Yam is good but you must wait a couple of week for it to get into the system and not stop it when they hot surges stop or they will creep back. You get it at the health food shop. Also as someone else said evening primrose is good. Germaine x |

Thanks Germaine for jogging my memory, Wild Yam is the other one I tried. My failing memory is far worse than any hot sweats, drives me nuts when I can't remember a word or something. Liz |
