I'm hopping on crutches and will go to casualty tomorrow to get a new care plan for the next few weeks. Husband is panicing as I'm getting pretty good on the sticks and every now and then he'll say 'Remember, no heroics! Bless him! I go to Corfu every year and have quite a few Greek friends who have blessed us so much so apart from the misfortune I'll also remember the holiday as one where so many people showed love and kindness.....one took hubbie to hospital and collected him every day saving him 300 euros in cab fares, another who makes leather goods made me a leather 'snow boot' to protect my leg at no cost plus so many other little things I could mention.. Thanks all for your good wishes. It's still quite surreal....All I did was get out of a car by a beach. Underfoot the ground was gravelly and sandy. Without warning my two feet started to move forwards, almost in slow motion, and I couldn't get my balance. The left foot kind of went underneath me and my weight landed on it -OUCH! I felt it snap!! There I was yelping that I'd broken my foot and my family weren't really believing me as I'd plummeted so gracefully. Three broken bones later....... Actually my husband broke his fingers in the sea last year at the same beach and we'd been laughing that we were about to lay the 'Pelakas' demons to rest by revisiting it..... Didn't even manage to catch a glimpse of the blasted sea before I was floored!! Aileenx |

Hi ya all, 3 days into my hols I broke my leg quite badly and ended up having an op to insert a metal plate. Was hospitalised for 6 days and then spent the last 5 days of the trip in the apartment during the day with trips out in a wheelchair for dinner. The Greek docs were fantastic and the clinic and care was brilliant as was the after-care I received from the local GP All I can say is thank God for insurance ! Several of my fellow inpatients weren't covered- one guy's bill was probably in excess of £ 12,000 so his parents had to fly over and take out a loan. Aileenx |
