Is this the one that you all like Family Tree Maker 2006-Uk Edition, is this the standard one you all mention? Sue

Thanks for that Jilly I have mine on the free one from family search, is it straight forward to just put all your info on this family tree maker programme? Sue

its easy as pie to type it all in and there are loads of different wee sections for you to note down stuff - medical history, notes, addresses etc since getting FTM I havent updated my tree on genes for a long long time! lol

I got my ftm at christmas and couldnt work out if there wa a way of importing a file into it so have been adding by hand along the way. Seems to take for ever but worth it in the end.

I use FTM 2006, and it's excellent! Like Jilly, I haven't updated anything on GR for ages (although I am doing it right now) Would recommend it to anybody - easy to use, superb reports all your 'private' stuff isn't available to all and sundry!!

Gloryer - its easy to transport the gedcom from GR into FTM2006 - just follow the instructions on the left margin about importing, export trees. Easy Peasy. Dont forget though to back up your family tree maker info to a cd often - I lost my puter last week and hadnt backed up for a month. So Ive had to go to my internet website and copy it all from there. Thank gawd that was safe. Oh thats the other thing, do create a home page on the internet - your own website - its dead impressive for the family and kids and looks really good with all your pics and images of docs etc and it references all your sources automatically. Just a mention Stenoz, it is actually illegal to copy the program AND anyone using it if they tried to register, to use websearch or make their own website would be picked up as using an illegal copy. As its only a tenner at the moment on some sites I dont think its worth taking the chance and not being able to use the great facilities.

Sue, I also have the Family Tree Maker 2006 edition and it is really easy to use. I have 2 trees on it, my 'close ancestors' one and my 'anyone connected' one so there are plenty of names in it. I had it on the Family Search PAF first and found it quite easy to follow the instructions to make a gedcom file and transfer it. I'm not an expert with computers so if I can do it anyone can. Good luck
