My mum went to the hairdressers a couple of weeks ago for a perm. She went on OAP day, but it still cost her £56. When she washed her hair subsequently it was dead straight - the perm hadn't taken. She rang the hairdressers to complain and they invited her back and said they would do it again - which they did. They then charged her a further £16 for a wash and blowdry for when they re-did the perm. Taking the micky or what! AL |

My advice - get a new hairdresser lol Seriously though - I'd refuse to pay the £16. If they'd done it right in the first place, she wouldn't have needed to go back! |

Definitely AL, and not only that I am shocked that they re-permed her hair.....I must say that I'm not a hairdresser, and someone with more knowledge will be able to put me straight (sorry I wasn't trying to be funny)........I always thought that it was a bad thing to use too many chemicals. As for the money, I think it is a disgrace to have charged anything after mucking it up in the first place..... |

I'm just about to write a letter of complaint for her and wanted to make sure people agreed with me. She said she was so shocked when they asked for the £16 that she just paid it. She's 77 and guess she just didn't want to make a scene. My sister went in the following day to complain, but got nowhere, so Mum asked me to write a letter for her. I can assure you she won't be using that hairdressers again! She only used it this time as it's a modern salon and she wanted her perm to be nice for my nephews wedding on Saturday. She should have stuck to her usual salon in the village where we live. If she had her hair would now be curley and she'd have saved herself about £40! AL |

Hi AL, your mum shouldn't have had to pay for anything.for whatever reason perms sometimes do not take but when you put someones hair right you don't charge them again. i would go back and complain to the hairdresser and say to them that she only had to have it dried again because of their mistake, good luck and be persistant, any good hairdresser wouldn't charge Karen |

Hi Brummie Might give them a call if we don't get anywhere with my letter. Do you know if they have a 'name and shame' site. Without mentioning any names the hairdressers is in the department store where the Enfield meet is taking place! AL |

Hi I am a hairdresser and understand things like this can occassionally happen but to charge for a wash & blow dry is a cheek. In my experience of hairdressing (22 years) if you look after the clients and not charge for correcting any problems (or the blow dry as in your mum's case) you are more likely to keep the client and of course people will tell their friends & family when they have been well treated as well as tell them about any bad experieces. Reputation is everything in this business Good Luck i hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction. Michele |

I've prepared the letter for her - she's sending it tomorrow. I've also found out their registered address and a copy is being sent there too. Thinking about it, does £16 sound expensive to you for just a blow dry? Mine costs that with a cut. If you check the Enfield meet thread you find details of the store in question. It's where they're meeting. AL |
