Never done this chat thing before, but feel I need to this morning. A mother duck and six babies decided to cross the road as I was heading into work this morning I needn't say what happened, it was either that or causing an accident with oncoming cars, and I feel dreadful as I've never ran over anything. I looked back in my mirror and the mother and one baby turned around to go back to see where they were. Since I've come into work everything is going wrong and feel a bit shaken really cos I can't stop thinking of them. It was a straight country road and I was doing 50mph, perhaps I was going too fast. I wish I could do something to make me feel better. Karen |

Oh sweetie that's so sad!! If you couldn't do anything about it then you can't blame yourself! Country roads are tho notorious for wildlife traffic so maybe going slower in future is the ideal! Sending ya a hug anyway cos I think you need one! xx |

Oh Karen, don't beat yourself up about it, it's not nice I know, but there wasn't anything you could do. Try not to think about it. catherine xx |

Oh Karen, how awful for you, I do understand how you feel. Unfortunately these things happen - I used to drive along a stretch of road to work which was lietrally littered with pheasants at certain times of the year. Take a little break at work, have a strong cuppa and a few deep breathing exercises. Take care, Sheila x |

Shows your normal Karen. I swerved a little last week to avoid a toad and checked the road coming back to make sure I hadn't hit it. Bob |

Oh Karen - you poor thing you must feel awful I know I would .... Get that a lot where I live - dual carriageway surround by lakes - geese are regulars crossing the road to get to the roundabout - or sometimes you round the bend to come across swans doing the same ............. I once hit a duck on the blind bend - nothing I could do to avoid it but I was totally devastated all day .......... can't even bear it to happen to a sparrow :O( |

It is sad Karen but tell yourself you did the right thing. you were not breaking the speed limit, you didn't know the ducks were going to run out and it would have been much worse if you had swerved to avoid them, there could have been a child in one of the other cars. If there are always ducks in that area maybe the council should put up a warning sign for motorists to slow at that point. Try and put it out of your mind now, there is nothing you can do about it. ((((hugs)))) Ann glos |

My friend lives in the country and we were driving once with her mum and we came across a sheep that had been recently hit, my friend and her mum got out threw it in the back of the 4x4 and it was in the freezer by the evening, being a townie I was horrified, I sat there quiet all evening. catherine xx |

That is a true 'accident', something which was beyond your control and not your fault. I've had a similar experience on my motorbike and the subject was a deer on a country road at night. Fortunately I missed it else neither the deer nor I would be around to tell the tale. |
