OK, so we are being told by all and sundry that the climate is changing…. Getting warming, getting colder, whatever……. Now areas that have never experienced severe weather will be feeling it. The UK is on Hurricane Warning…. A category 5 hurricane is heading towards the UK with the eye expected to pass over Birmingham. Are you prepared? What would you do first? If your roof goes what precious things have you stored in the loft? Do you try to make them safe or do concentrate on what is around you? I was talking to my sister today and we always moan about storage space, I nearly had a loft put into my house….. pleased I didn’t bother though. Do you store useful things that you might one day need or do have a pristine loft devoid of ‘rubbish’. Think on the hurricanes will come or so we are being led to believe. I know England has already experienced a mild one but are you prepared for a biggy? Jacquie xxx |

Catherine from Manchester | Report | 5 Jul 2006 14:03 |
Most of my stuff in the loft is for a car boot, so the hurricane would save me the trouble, that's if it got to Manchester. catherine xx |

All those cardboard boxes up there would be flying around Jaqui. We always put boxes up there when we buy things like TVs etc, then forget to get rid of them when we are sure everything is working OK. Also cases up there and loads of paperbacks waiting for a convenient boot sale!!! Nothing valuable. Ann Glos |

When I was moaning this morning about space.... my sister reminded me that had we had a loft we would have lost everything that was in it, anyway I don't have so much 'stuff' to store now so the problem isn't as bad as it was... We'll just have to tie down the shed!!!! Jacquie xxxx |

Oh dear........ I am in the loft !! Short of space we had the loft boarded over and it's my refuge space. Looking around I see far too much, - .... suitcases, books, maps etc. We are supposed to keep a 'Flood emergency' pack up here too with Wellies, radio, emergency food rations, rubber gloves amongst other items. Not much room for me. Gwyn |

Our loft is FULL of hubby's junk - he will not throw anything out - drives me nuts, so a hurricane would be welcome to blow it all away !! Stella |

Stella I know that is said tongue in cheek.... But be careful of what you wish for..... Once experienced you would not want to experience it again! Jacquie xxxxx |

When we had that 'mini' hurricane in 1987 I think it was (mini was it - scared the wits out of me!!!) a whopping great concrete block that was round the chimney was blown through our roof. It DIDN'T end up through the ceiling and on top of my 5 year old daughter's bed because it landed on an ancient Amstrad computer, a bag of old blankets and a long abandoned baby buggy - all stored in the attic! Thank goodness for junk. Bev x |
