after reading derbyshire dancers thread about finding Pat on the floor it has made me decide to go to my mums. Her phone has been engaged all weekend. She has done this before and she merely had not put the receiver back properly. Last time I phoned her local paper shop to give her a message when she came for her morning papers. But you just never know do you? So looks like I will be making the trip on my moped as I have no other way of getting there. At least the weather is in my favour. |

Ask BT to check the phone - they can tell if there's a fault or if receiver's not down right they'll put the 'howler' on it (loudish noise to let you know the handset's not on) Hope all is ok Christine |

Dufficult shot to call. My m-i-l is 85 and lives 20 miles away. My OH phones her every night about 6. We arranged for an alarm to go round her neck, so if she is taken ill, if she can press that it goes through to a Council call centre who will contact one of a list of people if there is no response. Her son, my OH brother, lives with her. He is 41 but mentally handicapped and wouldn't have a clue what to do in an emergency. So if she was taken ill suddenly it could be 24 hours before the alarm was raised. She won't move in with us whilst she can manage on her own. |

I was quite calm about it this time but last time had all sorts of thoughts running through my head.. Good idea to have an emergency button but my mum wont admit that she is now 'old' She only goes out to the paper shop or shopping to town and has no visitors whatso ever. When I have mentioned coffee mornings or anything similar to her she said that its nearly all old people there so she wont go...... |
