Me too Ruth, Thankfully it's all quiet on my street at the moment, though I expect many will still be sat in public houses drowning their sorrows. Happily it's only the minority who will, even in their absence, be creating fear in many a heart tonight. Jen

There's an old saying.........A good tree will produce good apples, But I imagina a bad tree won't always produce bad apples. All people are individuals and as such have it within their nature to change, or to wish to experience the opposite of what they once knew. I luckily have never found myself in such unfortunate circumstances. This thread arose out of my shock and concern, something to which I had given little thought before hand, from a recent news item reporting on how many women were mistreated and abused after football matches..............it would appear that some men were not satisfied with containing their anger bad conduct, and violence to the terraces or other supporters but, were taking it home to their partners. Christine and Jen do you think children who see nothing but violence in their lives go on to be violent themselves?? just something I always wondered!!

Rod- Christine answered your question. Much as I am against violence of any kind, I believe everyone deserves the chance to be helped and maybe with proper help the violent person can change and be shown to deal with it rather than with fists etc..

Yes Ruth, the two children here now sadly go to special schools due to disabilities, and I dread to think how this new pregnancy will fare. Jen

I suppose sometimes they think that's just the way it is and stay for convenience. Sad way to live and you are right the children are so badly affected by this. Children as well will grow up thinking this is normal. It's so sad.

Yes they do Ruth, it's not a situation I would tolerate either. Yet nevetheless, there are those who refuse to help themselves, and drinking only exsacerbates the problems. Unfortunately, the person I referred to near me (the whole family in fact) and I certainly do not mean this in a derogitory fashion, but are sadly locked in to a certain lifestyle and way of behaving, in comparrison to most, and it's the children and the unborn one has to feel for in these situations. I find I get so angry when I read about men/women who are violent to their partners. There is no excuse and although I understand why women/men stay with people like this I really wish they would get themselves out of there. I have never suffered this myself as I have been really lucky These violent people need help.

That whilst todays football euphoria overtakes most of us today, that some women in particular all across the country, will be dreading the aftermath of an unfavourable outcome! These women, may suffer at the hands of bullying husbands who have over imbibed and been left sorely disappointed, and will look for reasons to take out their anger and frustrations on something or someone! I mention this in particular, as there is one such person who lives not far from me and whose wife is pregnant for the second time in less than 12 months, after having miscarried a short while ago.
