Perhaps she's getting a bit dry mouthed - does she sleep with her mouth open or snore? Kaye x

Kaye, thanks, but she does neither. It's particularly bad in the mornings and the kids have started joking that she has a smokers cough!! Sue.

I really don't know then - I would take her to vet and have a chat with them, just to make sure there's nothing wrong. Kaye x

Thanks, have booked the vet's for next week, just wondered if anybody on here had come across the same problem with their dog. Sue.

I guess there are lots of things it could be? It could be as innocent as Hayfever? Let us know what the Vet says. Kaye x

Thanks, Pat, the thought had crossed my mind. Forgot to mention, she is nearly 12 years old so I suppose that could be a possibility. Just thought it a bit strange because it only happens when she wakes up. Sue.

You were right. Have been to the vets and as I feared it is her heart. He couldn't listen to her lungs because her heart is too noisy. Have some heart and water tablets (she's weeing all the time including on my bed last night!!) and have to go back next week. Fingers crossed. Sue.

With my mother and brother's dogs, their coughs were due a problem with the heart and chest. My brother's dog has heart tablets and my mother's dog has the same heart tablets and sometimes they have to give him cough medicine too. Good luck for next weeks visit. M.

Sorry to hear about your dog Sue. But to look on the bright side I had a red setter who had a bad heart for a number of years. The tablets the vet gave her worked well she lived till almost 15 and that was a long time ago probably they have even better medication now. Germaine x

Sue, Our Scott has asthma, he coughs all the time. He was born with it and has been taking medication for his heart for the last twelve years. When it gets real bad we hold him up under his front armpits and gently massage his back, it does help. Also, when he gets over excited he tends to have an attack. Scott also urinates all over the place, has done since he was a puppy. We don't make a big deal about it, so he does not get stressed. Some dogs are just too highly strung. Hope you get sorted! Lindy ;-))))))))))
