Update. I have found the recipe for the menopause cake. I have just explained it to OH who said he thought it was a brilliant idea. Make the cake, bake for a week then hit wife over head with it when symptoms start!!!! I'm on strike for the rest of the month now LOL

take 4 Remifemin a day, (a formula extracted from the active of black cohosh but not the same as); don't wear synthetic clothing and cut down (or out) processed foods, especially sugar and coffee you'll feel like a new woman Lesley :-)

oops I got so engrossed in searching for my Bakers I forgot I had put the message up here, until another hot flush came. I will look for that recipe book, a slice of cake a day sounds good to me! Crone, thats the reason I want to stay off HRT as long as possible, because I know most doctors will take you off it after 5 years. I want to be sure the menopause is over by the time I come off it, so delaying the start of it. My doctor mentioned black cohosh, however, my limited funding is already going on meds and supplements for my arthritis, so I will have to be careful what I spend. Thanks for all your replies (fans face again), the bright red glow from Norwich is me haha

I dont wish to pry and I am sure you have good reasons for not wanting to take HRT - but for me, HRT was like a miracle. It worked immediately and it was as if someone had switched on the light! I didnt have any side effects whatsoever but my cautious doctor took me off it after 5 years, so I'm back to being fuzzy-brained again. Olde Crone

As one who has been battling with hot flushes for three years, not much seems to help! Having said that, I am trying Black Cohosh and I do think I have noticed an improvement. I had far less hot flushes last week in spite of the weather but had quite a few today. However, I have noticed that a hot flush is often but not always triggered by a stressful event or even a stressy thought! My son is doing his A levels this week and is very stressed so I think its rubbing off on me. I have been on Black Cohosh for about three weeks, bought three packets from Boots, Buy two get one free so aim to keep on them for three months-or forever if I decide they really are working! Good luck with finding some relief. Chris xx

It's that time of day again, and they are getting worse. They start from the waist and elbows up, and tonight I feel like I'm burning up. What's the best thing for them, without HRT, I want to avoid that if I can, for as long as I can.
