Glad you have sorted it Aileen. I too bought an external hard drive a couple of weeks back. Too many nasties around these day to take chances. Hoping you get it all back somehow. Dianex |

Right I sorted the noise, it was an advert so thanks Diane for also emailing me. And the problem was not an AOL one after all. I know AOL is loathed but most of you but I've never had problems with it in the 10 years I've had it. I had a worm -name escapes me!-on the computer (my fault!) which my son banished but I also lost ALL my downloads and files(music that I'd paid for, photos family history docs and a 7,000 word manuscript) none of which I'd saved. I never thought a piece of machinery could reduce me to tears! Loads of stuff just disappeared that can never be replaced! Torn between calling in document retrievers or totally removing everything from the machine and starting from scratch I opted for the latter and I left my son at 1.45am this morning still sorting out everything. Hopefully he's finished cos it was so difficult even setting up things like the wireless network again-Bless him!! But before I went to bed I purchased a second hard drive as a backup off Ebay! A word of warning to everyone...... please please back up your stuff. It's too precious to lose and don't download anything suspicious..this worm had sort of tagged on to a GR member's email and I downloaded it before I had a chance to think. Aileenx |

Think I found the problem, on the main page is a ad for 'connect to your local council', in the right hand corner is the words 'sound on/off just click on it, and it will turn that horrible noise off, it worked for me...nothing wrong with your computer, just that rotton ad.......Lilly |

Hi Aileen - I'm afraid I don't know how to help you, but I have been having internet problems for a few days, the other day I couldn't access my emails at all. I have seen other threads on the boards mentioning problems too - hopefully it's just the weather making thing go a bit mad? If you've done a virus scan and scanned for Adware/Spyware then I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe defragging would help? Sorry I can't help - it's frustrating when they do this isn't it. Kaye x |

Thats odd. I don't have AOL but it seems to be their problem, try emailing them. (This is why I don't have AOL) |

Sue have you checked your documents? Has anything disappeared? About the sound this is like a thudding sort of music, rave-style! Plus I can't print anything from the internet or my emails. That happened yesterday and I put out a plea on the boards but still haven't fixed it. Aileenx |

Teresa I did that. I ran the full scan. The result was that there were no viruses although Panda did block some things today. I've looked in search on the computer and put in file names that I've created and it says they are not there. |

Have you tried turning off your computer completely, then turning it back on again? |

I have(AOL) and have had a noise all morning but it doesn't sound like music it just sounds like someone scraping a record round a turntable. I have done a virus scan but it hasn't got rid of the noise. Must be the warm weather. Sue |

I would do a thorough virus scan first, make sure your program is updated first so it has all the latest info on it. |

Was listening to the radio (AOL) thru it and then heard some background noise like another radio station cutting in. Turned off AOL then signed in again. The 'music' is still there but now I can't find my files or play anything on the Windows Media Player.' Keeps saying 'the file may have been moved, renamed or deleted' Have I got a virus and has everything been stolen? I have Panda protection |
