Thanks Jan - got the news on now. I've got to be in the city centre early tomorrow morning. I'm wondering if there'll still be problems getting through if they've still got it cordoned off. Mags xx

Oh my goodness! Must put the news on. Thanks for letting us know, will ring hubby in the car, he's just left the office and whilst he doesn't go towards Bristol, I would think it has a knock-on effect on the M-whatever that links to Bath. Love Mandy :) xx

Area closed over suspected bomb The Broadmead area is being redeveloped Police have closed Bristol's central Broadmead area following the discovery of a suspected wartime bomb. Officers were called to the new development off Bond Street after workmen unearthed an object believed to date back to World War II. An eyewitness told the BBC most of Broadmead had been evacuated and people were being asked to leave the area. 'We were shopping in Debenhams when we were asked us to leave the store for emergency reasons,' she said. 'Heavily bombed' Army bomb disposal experts have examined the device, which was located some 11 metres down. An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said a 100m exclusion zone would remain in force around the suspected German bomb until a team from the Royal Engineers was able to dig down properly. Inspector Andrew Coote said: 'The workmen had been drilling came across something they couldn't explain. 'They were concerned because the area had been heavily bombed in World War II. 'We won't know what it is until it has been properly examined. That probably won't be done until tomorrow.' John Hirst, manager of the Broadmead shopping centre, said.: 'All the stores in Broadmead were shut for about an hour. 'About 15% have reopened but the vast majority will remain closed until tomorrow.' Major work began last September on the first phase of a £500m revamp of the area.
