has anyone taken codeine phosphate painkillers, if you have how did you get on with them, I took two at 2.00pm and within an hour my head started to thump and it felt like my pulse was going to come through my forehead and top of my head, till I took two annadin extra at 6.00pm and went to bed, headache is all but gone now, has anyone else had this happen after taking these tablets, is it an allergic reaction, I obviously wont be taking any more of them. jean |

Hi Jean I was given them for a bad back, but they made me feel really woosy and very sick so I haven't taken them since ! I have never felt so sick, it was worse than the pain !! I now take paracetamol with codeine , always after I've eaten and sometimes only one at a time, with ibuprofen. :0) Joan |

Oh dear Jean, I get the headache from Asprin. I take co-codamol (paracetamol and codine phosphate) for migranes and don't get any reactions from it. I suggest that if a Doctor gave you the Codine that you let them know that it is giving you headaches. If not from thr Doctor, you might want to use another painkiller that does not give you any side effects. Would also make sure you line your stomach before taking them just to be on the safe side. with Asprin and Ibuprofen, you should always have something to eat before taking them even if it is just milk. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Side effects of Morphine Salts including Codine Phosphate. nausea and vomiting (particularly in initial stages), constipation, and drowsiness; larger doses produce respiratory depression, hypotension, and muscle rigidity; other side-effects include difficulty with micturition, ureteric or biliary spasm, dry mouth, sweating, headache, facial flushing, vertigo, bradycardia, tachycardia, palpitation, postural hypotension, hypothermia, hallucinations, dysphoria, mood changes, dependence, miosis, decreased libido or potency, rashes, urticaria and pruritus; |

hi lunar, the doctor gave me them, because I do get quite a few sinus headaches and she didnt like the idea of me taking so many annadin when I have an attack, these last for about 3days when I get one. am wondering now if it wasnt a sinus infection Ive got, but just a really bad sinus attack. shant be taking codeine phospate again, and will certainly let doctor know. she only gave me the lowest dose to take as well. jean |

My husband had them when he had pleurisy. They affected him badly too. If I take pseudophendrine, for Sinusitis, they make me feel awful - racing pulse, nervousness, palpitations and I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking I would die. Lorrainex |

you can get what is called a 'codeine headache' when taking these. they are strong and effective painkillers, but they are also like an opiate i get quite high if i take them, and certainly would not be able to drive!! Bev |

I once had a painful abcess and my doctor prescribed codeine phosphate to take away the pain of it, and paracetamol to take away the headache that he said the codeine would cause. Another side-effect of the codeine could be constipation. Just thought that would cheer you up. len |
