Hi Jeanette My injury wasn't caused by the heat as I was sock and shoeless at the time. But what I had been doing was housework - standing on the back of the settee and dusting the picture rail (why?). I stepped back down onto the seat cushion and that's when I think it happened - my heel went right down on the squashy cushion. I can't understand it as I've this before loads of times! It just goes to show you how dangerous housework can be! Take care out there...

Eden What a relief to hear that somebody else has had this too! That's exactly what it looked like. I wonder if the heat has anything to do with it. I'd had my socks and boots on cos it hadn't been very nice earlier, but then it turned out lovely later, but I didn't change my footwear. I have my flip-flops on now!

Hi there, I had a similar problem last week. I thought I had had a bite on the top of my foot where it joins the lower leg. It started as a raised bump and quickly turned blueish and spread a bit further up my leg - it looked like a dark blue slug! I did panic - was it a blood clot?- and called NHS direct. The nurse said it sounded like a burst blood vessel and that it would be like a bruise. The odd thing was it didn't hurt and has disappeared over 4 or 5 days. The nurse said that you wouldn't see a clot, it would be deeper in the leg.I've never heard of this happening before, it's a strange relief to know I'm not the only sufferer - hope yours get better soon.

The bruise has totally gone this morning Joy and my toe doesn't hurt at all. Very strange! If it happens again I'll get myself to the docs to be on the safe side. Thanks for asking xx

Joy.......I looked up the syptoms of gout (it was my first thought! lol) but it doesn't seem to fit I do quite like the sound of Anne's burst blood vessel though. When I first took my sock off, there was a vein in the area that was quite raised. I was worried it was blood clot so I took an aspirin! LOL

Could be that, Jeanette - a no-see-um (not wum) - or gout ?

At tea time I had a sudden horrible pain near the big toe joint of my foot. It was kind of tingley, prickly and hot and very tender to touch. The pain didn't last very long, but I've just looked now and I have a bruise there. Any ideas what has caused this? Jeanette x
