It is really quite worrying isn't it? An article in the paper was saying that the gangs who use devices at ATMs have got quite sophisticated, a lot of them are eastern European. I try to draw my money from the machinesthata r inside banks but that is not always possible I know. Another fairly safe way is to get cash back on your debit card. sorry to hear you have had this problem Liz and hope it soon ets sorted. The annoying thing is that becaues it is obviously costing the banks money it is inevittable thatw e the public will pay for it in some way. Ann Glos |

Glad to have been some help and that the police were ok with you, sorry your bank was not on the ball with that - do let the bank know you've got the police involved and that you've got a crime number, hopefully, and it might push the bank to get off their backside and sort this quicker. Claire |

Just spoken to Windsor police who told me that my bank should have told me to report it as it is classed as obtaining money by deception. Why they didnt I will have to question that. Feel better for reporting it though, even though it is going to be a long process. Liz |

Did you notice anything funny about the cash-point machine? Have heard in the press about people putting mirrors above the pin pad to read the numbers you press from a distance plus other things about having devices fitted onto the front of the machine so that it scams your card. Where is Cockfosters?! Shows my ignorance now! There's a lot of tourists in Windsor I presume, can you contact the local police and see if they are aware of any gangs working in the area targetting that cash machine or others near it? Claire |

I used my card in a Disney Store once and then noticed that my credit card bill had some thing on it I had not ordered over the net, it was for 'LUXURY UNDIES!' was the website name at the time apparently. I rang up the credit card company and said I wouldn't have minded so much if I'd had the new undies! They did give me a credit back on the next bill ok though, so that was a relief. Have you got all your cards, you've not lost one whilst you were there? There was something in the papers about a garage chain whose PIN machines were being used fraudulently in some branches as the transactions were not being closed off properly and it enabled some people to be ripped off. Can you get a statement over the counter tomorrow and see where the money has come out yourself to identify which branch it was used and if it was by a cash-point withdrawl or cheque or transfer? You can get printouts from machines in some banks and the counter staff should help you in the circumstances. When you paid in the restaurant did your card stay at the table with you in the machine or did they take it away from your table to put it into the machine, which would have given them time to 'scam' it and make a duplicate copy? Good luck with sorting it out. Claire |
