Story- Husband's g.grandparents, sat in their flat eating the sausage and mash during the Blitz, both mutton (& jeff) deaf as posts. FiL and MiL say, come on, quickly to the shelter, the bombs are coming - to which Grandad replied.... Oh - I fawt there was something wrong - me bleedin bangers keep jumpin off the plate..... They stayed up in the top flat, and would not go down to the shelter. They died within two days of each other, and loved each other dearly...

William IV pub over the road, Tolers garage behind, traffic lights outside, traffic all night, trams, the smell of wet roads on a grey day, utility furniture, blocks of salt and sugar, wrapped in air-force blue type paper, ration books, identity cards, National dried milk, oxydol soap powder, glycerine bar soap for washing, washing soda, tin bath on back of house, downstairs loo, cold water to stone sink, cooking range, bombed out houses, iron tie bars on our place, stone water bottles....and yes, I'm nearly 60, but it sounds like Victorian tmes, doesn't it.....
