haven't been asked that way, usually peeps would ask then say because I have a 'So and So' in my tree and noticed you have the same name with a birth year very close to mine. Thats usually how I would ask also.

Ask why - and don't let them see your tree it unless they have a good reason. There are 'name collectors' out there who will see your name matches one of theirs, ask to see your tree then, with a lot of cheating, blend your tree into theirs. Next thing 'Hot matches' will tell you that 'Jo Bloggs' has several matches with you. You will get all excited then find out that Jo Bloggs has concocted an enormous tree based on pure fiction and woven your names into it, hence the matches. Don't ask me why they do it. Why do train spotters spot trains? Len

i had someone ask this a few months ago, so i asked what connection did they think they had--------you guessed it!!!! no reply!!!!!!! so i went and had a look at my messages, and there he was again months before asking if i had this one person in my tree! i politely told him there was no connection! so why ask to see my tree months later? maybe he realised he'd made a mistake in asking again-----well, he could of at least of replied and said so!! since then i have taken my tree off here, cos i was getting sick of people contacting me, and yes we would have a connection, but once they had got there info that would be it!! no more contact!

I always write and say that i think 'so and so' could be my 'G Whatever' and give a few details. Then ask them if it could be a connection. Always wish them well in their search however they answer.

Is that the standard GR request box answer??? I have ticked the request box for 3 trees and am now horrified that that's what could be coming up on their screens!! Oh dear I hope I haven't mis-advertantly offended anyone, think I'll go and ask nicely now that I know!! Thanks for making me aware of this :))))

Quite often yes, I think some people jump in feet first and go a bit mad when they start and don't remember to use their manners, If i get a request like that , i just reply ''who do you think connects us?'' When they reply ''i dont know until i have seen your tree'', i just ignore them if they message again. Its takes all kind of folks to make up a world - are this site does have its share of them!!

Lee On requesting to see a tree there is a quick way to ask by ticking a box and that is the reply, sure GR should have worded it better..Jay

is this the way that you would normally get asked on GR. not even a reason. not even a please.
