Yes there is a social paradox at the moment- any thing to do with child sex crime is being brought to our attentio before anything else by the media ,and seems to bring out the most vocal reaction etc,yet at the same time people are tolerating the increase in sexualising of children through fashion, computer games ,films ,use of language etc. I had a girlfriend down south who allowed and encouraged her 10 year old to dress like an adult woman, yet she would be the first to gio on about perverts etc.The poor girl herself said to me that the clothes didnt feel right, and she didnt like them-they were christmas clothes bought by her gandmother-!!.....who says mum knows best ?!! |

Hi Rachel it probably won't make a blind bit of difference but at least it's drawn attention to it if nothing else. |

Muffy - I hope then that his interest does have a positive effect and stores take this type of clothing off the rails. Otherwise it's just a load of hot air! |

When I was a child (60's) it was the fashion to dress your daughter in a similar way to yourself. I remember mothers and daughters in matching coats! This is what's happening now, only mothers are walking about half dressed and their children expect, and are allowed to do the same. It doesn't look nice. Trudi |

Don't you think that he's just saying what everybody wants to hear? His last PR stunt to Norway highlighting enviromental issues actually contributed to the greenhouse effect He was keen to be photographed riding his bike to work, however his aide took his shoes and papers in by car. The lengths some people go to be liked! On the issue of clothes for children - I find Next the worst offender . They sell the same range of clothes for 3-16 years. Their tops carry slogans of suggestive content - totally inappropriate for a young child. I find it sickening seeing a young girl wearing this type of clothing. |

I sometimes find it very hard to buy my 5 year old what I consider to be suitable clothes in some stores. I don't dress her in button to the neck blouses or anything lol, but she is a child and I want her to dress like one. I don't know if I am right, but I always think that if you dress a child to look like a teenager, she may well catch a lurking paedophile's eye and in their sick brains, as in the brains of a rapist, they may justify it in their heads by convincing themselves that she was asking for it. Totally sick, I know but I just wouldn't be prepared to take any chances. My littles ones will be the ones wandering about in a t shirt and track suit able to run and play as children should and not be a fashion plate tottering around in high heels. There's time enough for that when they are older. Or maybe I am just old fashioned....................... |

Absolutely totally 100% agree, the children that I see walking around looking like total slappers is unbeleivable!!! I dont give a hoot about what they call kid power, the bloody parents are in charge and are accountable, so stop it now and yes I know what I am talking about as the parent of a 14 year od girl :-) |

I totally agree with you, Jim. This is one area where parents have to take responsibility. |

I had a real shock the first time I saw some little misses dressed up like the Spice Girls and singing 'If you wanna be my lover.' Surely it's time we went back to treating children as children, and not some fantasy mini-adults. At the end of the day you can only blame the Parents. If they didn't buy this c..p the shops would stop offering it for sale. |

David Cameron yesterday launched an attack on High Street stores for selling 'harmful and creepy clothes which 'sexualise' young children' This is the first thing he has said since he became leader that I 100% agree with. Do you think he's right or do you just see these clothes as a harmless fashion trend? |
