Hi Shirley, when she told him she was expecting he told her he was married in the States, old story, so she packed him off and told him never to get intouch again, he did just once when Dave was three months, but she had met someone else and married him, but i think she regretted it all her life. She has told me that he was the love of her life. Gill |

Things were sooooo different in the forties.Even when I got married in the fifties it was almost a moral sin to be an unmarried mum. guess your MIL was being protective of all concerned. |

Thank's everyone, and by the way please don't think iam knocking my MIL in any way i love her to bits, she only did what she thought was right at the time. When she was young it was a different time and place. Gill xx |

Dave my OH,always new his father was a G.I stationed here in WW2,his mother told him when he was about 10 after he overheard a nasty conversation that the neigbours were haveing. He was very sensertive all his life. Then in 1995 after seeing all the celebrationsv for the 50th anniversery of the end of the war Stuart (or eldest son ) was saying to me he would love to find out what happened to him.MIL had always told us he died on D Day, she also said he had seen Dave when he was about 3months old, i had never thought about it before and it came to me like a thunderbolt D Day was June 1944 Dave wasn't born till sept so how could he see him at 3 months. Well to try and cut a long story short, it took us 15 months but we found him alive and well and living in Kansas,he had lost his wife 3months before and he had know other children. We went over in 1997 and had a lovely time and he came over here 1999 for a visit with his new wife. The only thing that upset us he didn't tell his sisters about Dave, untill now that is. Last night at 8 we had a supprise phone call, The lady said Hi Dave this is your cousin Ruth. They had a family reunion for his sisters 90th birthday and he told them all, and they want us to visit as soon as possable. Gill |
