On the right you will see a box which YOU DO NOT TICK to give permission to view you tree if you don't want them to ok. Betty

Hi Jacqueline, Just do as Reg suggests, then they wont see your tree unless you tick the box giving them permission to view it. Betty.

Okay i just checked his message again, and when i click on reply, it has message but no box to tick. If i reply to him will it automatically let him see my tree, because i once give someone permission and they copied everything i had in my tree and they werent related.

There is a box with a tick in it giving permission for others to view your tree. Click on it to remove the tick.

Just click on 'reply' at the bottom..........ignore the bit which gives 'permission to view'. Ask for details of the possible link...........even if there is one, you are not obliged to allow someone else to view your tree. Simply replying does not give access to your tree........there is a separate section to click on if you wish to allow it. Treat every request with caution, until you are certain that it isn't someone wanting to get free benefit from all your research....... Reg

Just ask them for more info first. Tell them that you have had others copy your tree when they were only very distantly related, and you had not given permission for that. If they are genuine they should give a bit more info. Some members seem to be trying for a record number of names on their tree.

Does anyone know how to reply to someone who has requested to look at your family tree without giving them permission right away. Someone asked to look at my tree, but i would prefer to know who they are looking for before i give permission.
