when we arrived at the hospital we went straight in to see mum.she was crying.she was so afraid of going into a nursing home.i hugged her and told her that she wasnt going anywhere, only home.the social worker was lovely. she asked mum if she wanted us to stay round the bed and chat.mum said yes cos she didnt want to be on her own.she asked mum why she didnt want to go into a nursing home, apart from the obvious.mums reply was'because they are for old people and im only 72.'bless her.mum should be home within 2 weeks! the social worker is now sorting out a care package.i have just spoken to dad and he said that when he left mum at 8 she was much happier. love you all susie xxx |

That's great Susie!! Sounds like you have found a decent social worker!! They only offered my Mum 1 hour a day if she was lucky, to look after Dad at Home, and she couldn't cope with him, so he went into a Home. Dreadful thought that if we'd had the money we could have kept him at home a little longer. So pleased your Mum is so happy. :0) Joan xxxxxxx |

I am so pleased for you all that the meeting went well and that the Social Worker seems to have actually listened to what people want. Well done. Jacky x |

Well done Susie, I'm glad the meeting went Ok and that you are getting some great support from the Social Worker. Would you ever consider paying a private night nurse to come in during the night, so that you could get some rest so that you can cope each day? I've no idea how much they cost, or if it is possible or how you organise it but at least that may help you at night? Mum must have been so proud of all of you being there for her. I'm pleased things are going well for you. Claire |

Hi Susie, hope mum is feeling happier now xxx I know you are a a carer too, and I hope your mum gets as good care at home, as you give to the folk you look after. Unfortunately, in the case of my father-in-law, the care package was far from adequate. The carers who were supposed to come at certain times to wash and dress him either came very late (i.e. the afternoon, instead of 9 am), or frequently didn't show up at all. instead of the 30 minutes they were being paid for, they stayed for less than 10. He was 96 years old, an ex-WW2 soldier, with a catheter, and unable to walk, my mother-in-law is 83 and couldn't cope. These were all Agency carers in South London. I hope your lovely mum gets better treatment - xxx Hugs Dee x |

hello dee i work for bucks county council, social services department. we do have agencies around here but i have blatantly told the social worker that i dont want them,i want social services lol. we have to ring in as soon as we arrive at the clients house and ring out when we leave. we have our own personal number which goes through to a switchboard and it shows up on our bosses puty.we didnt like it at first but actually it works well. i always end up staying longer at the houses lol.i do far more than what is on the care plan.lol the experience that ive had with agencies isnt good. they dont get the training that we get for one thing. we have manual handling every 6 months.medication training every 12 months and so on. susie xx |
