Clare thats the reason they use the nursery in our primary, because it has it's own seperate enterance and no one can get thru to the main school.

My son's school has asked , every time, not to be used as a polling station, but the City Council insist. Sharon xx

Our school is staying open. They have managed to corner off the building where the 1000's will be voting!! Penny

I'm inclined to agree Elaine. Our primary (infants and juniors) and nursery AND playgroup are all off tomorrow and we only just had a teacher day, and a couple of weeks ago there was a power cut so we were closed. I can understand not having kids in school when there are a lot of people coming in and out though. A temporary buliding used to be put up on the Green for polling day but I guess that is too expensive now. ANdwe have a church hall. Don't know what the alternative is really. I suppose it has been done this way for some good reason. Claire xx

I dont want it to be open for polling and a normal school day as well, But I dont want the school closed for polling as well. Its just there are alternatives which dont involve the loss of a days education. With all the talk of charging parents who take their child on holiday during term time, I think its a bit two faced, they are making the children not go to school, and making them miss a days education There are plenty of halls and venues around to vote in. Our local polling station is in my childs Middle School and usually it too would close even though it is in an Annexe to the builidng ( Youth Club in this case), but this year through the headmasters own fault they are having to be in school are the children because they have had the quota of Occasional Days off for the year.

for local elections only the nursery closes.. the rest of the school remains open. But when the big elections comes round the whole school will close..... and there is no suitable alternative!!!!

Probably because the eduction or councils get paid for its use xxx

Our area always uses the church hall near the school. Why not give your local councillor a ring and ask him . As the local elections are looming ,I'm sure he will be quite happy to listen to you.

Possibly because Council owns them anyhow so don't need to pay hall fees. A pain for you though!

Must the polling be done in our primary school when there are at least 2 suitable buildings nearby ? Ones a church hall and the other used to be the legion hall.(something else now) Its the week before sats so its not a great time to have a day off anyhow. I also wont get paid for my L A job because im only contracted for mon tue & Fri, the other days Im still filling out a form for additional duties which ive had to do since January Grrrrrrrrrrr !
