Thanks Len. Hiya Lynda Lovely to hear that Zoe found some rellies for you today. Unfortunately only 1902/03 would help me. I don't think they go back that far, especially with wives listed. The Smith search goes on though - I refuse to give up:)) Chrissie xx |

I enquired in my local library recently and was told that the lists were no longer available for inspection - data protection or something. len |

Thanks Phoenix. The lady I'm looking for died at the beginning of 1919 so just missed her chance then. |

You'll need to check precise dates, but I think we could vote in 1919 if aged over 30 and everyone (bar lunatics & criminals etc) could vote by 1929 if aged over 21. |

The womens Suffrage was from 1906 -1918 when most women had the right to vote. Heather |

Thanks Harry. Do you know if women could vote in 1902/03 please? |

I agree with the above. My own borough occasionally produced a book of residents, which included wives (1908 was one year), but as a general rule you are going to be unlucky. Happy days |

Thank you. The burgess roles wouldn't be any use then because she wouldn't have been the head of household. Could women vote in 1902/03? Otherwise she wouldn't be on anyway. |

Possible. yes. But they are not online, they are in individual libraries. Nor are they indexed. And women won't appear until they get the vote. If the place is a borough, you can find women on burgess rolls, but only if they were the heads of households. |

After reading Lisa's thread it suddenly made me wonder. Is it possible to look at electoral roles for 1902/1903 and would it list a wife if she was over 18? If so, how do I get to see them please? Chrissie x |
