I have a great litttle plaque on the wall in my hallway which I use as an excuse for not doing the housework and you may of heard this it says: Some houses try to hide the fact That children shelter there, Ours boasts of it quite openly The signs are everywhere. For smears are on the windows Little smudges on the doors, I should apologise, I guess For the toy's strewn on the floor. But I sat down with the children And we laughed and played and read, And if the doorbell doesn't shine There eye's will shine instead. For when at times I'm forced to choose, The one job or the other I want to be a housewife But first I'll be a mother. Denise. |

I love that sentiment, but....... I've just read an article on AOL news/LEISURE(????) about housework. It suggests 'Cleaning a house helps women feel in control and many find it theraputic' ??? It also says that 'Domestic Chores' take up an average of 9 years, 2 months and 25 days over a lifetime. I can think of far better things to do with that amount of time - just think how many rellies you could find in that time. LOL Anne in North London |

That's really lovely - is there one also for those whose kids have 'fled the nest'! I need an excuse (other than that I am on this board all the time!) Allie x ps had to laugh about those multiple postings! This kept happening to me at one time - it's so embarrassing! |

Denise That is lovely. I have sent it to my (very houseproud) daughter in law in the (probably vain) hope she will read and learn! :o) Many years ago when my children were small, my godmother gave me a plaque which says:- Cleaning and scrubbing can wait til tomorrow, For babies grow up, we've learnt to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep! ********************************************************* To all of you with young children :- they grow up so quickly, enjoy them and play with them while you can, because in the blink of an eye they are grown with children of their own! And the housework will still be there even after the grandchildren are too old to be played with!!! Sue xx |

I felt I had to buy it because everytime my mother-in-law came round she used to say I had a routine I did this at this time and that at that time, and I once said to her you may have had your house immaculate your ironing done and put away but do you think your children remember or even cared wether the washing was done on time,no but when you ask them do they ever remember roll play with mummy reading and playing with mummy NO they don't didn't go down too well at the time but it was true and when I bought this verse I put it on the wall pointed it out to her the very next time I heard about her routine and now it's there as a permanant reminder.oooooooooooooooh I am so stroppy when people think there way is the right way. I remember complaining to my Mum about toys all over the place and she told me not to complain because when they grow up I will miss the toys. She was right but now I have toys for the grandchildren and I love it. Susan |
