hi all,will the census come out a bit earlier do you think ,?and will they ever open all census,s up for us all to see without us having to wait 10 years ? xxxxxjoy

No i dont think it will come out early and no they will never bring them out early, we will have to wait and see whats left of the 1911 as they are supposed to be in a bad way kim

There's been a lot of hoohaa about this. From the letter I got from my MP it looks like censuses will never be released early. The 1911 is in a mess too, with no plans as far as I can find out to either digitise or index or microfilm it. It's just the original loose-leaf householder's forms, so not even collated into streets. nell

The 1911 census will certainly answer a lot of questions relating to my family tree, but it is meant to be in a terrible condition due to water, mice nibbling on it and someone mentioned that the offices it was being held in had been bombed by the Germans during the war!! Kate :O(

Joy I don't think anyone has investigated! Regarding censuses, your local library might have free access to Ancestry and therefore all the censuses 1841-1901. BUT they might not! You could always phone and ask. The complete 1841-1901 censuses are also on microfilm at the Family Records Centre in London. County records offices will have the census relating to their area. nell

I dont know if this has been asked before but why cant we see earlier censuses eg, 1831, 1821,1811........... when did census start?

Various earlier local censuses where they exist, should be in the relevant county records office. nell
