Went today and saw Dr Tung. A round ball of a man with a face so chubby his eyes were really slits - he doesn't speak English so the receptionist has to be there to translate which is really disconcerting as he is talking to my face but I am understanding nothing till the girl explained. Apparently my body is out of balance and my tongue was too dark! He is trying to treat my tiredness and sleep problems so suggested acupuncture and herbs. I cannot afford this but decide it will be worth one go at least to try it out. He stuck in all the pins, and I only felt one or two of them, had one in the top of my head, four in my face, some down my arms to my wrists and some in my legs from the knees down, and one in each foot, close to area between big toe and second toe. Then I was covered with a blanket and told to relax for 40 mins, the light was turned off and curtains closed, but outside was a lot of traffic noise as situated in city centre. However I did manage to relax and even dozed a little. The doctor came back in and removed the pins, then said 'turn over' (in English!) and gave me acupressure massage which was very forceful but wonderful afterwards. I also got a head massage. I came away with some herbal tablets and a credit card bill £37 bigger than when I went in. I hope I feel some difference in the next week but will struggle to find the money to have another treatment in a fortnight, which is what they recommend, around 8 treatments in all. Will keep you posted but if I sleep better and have more energy and feel less tired all the time, it will be worth while.

That's great news Liz. A good recommendation will be worth a great deal to them, so it's in their interests to help you. Let us know how you get alone, won't you, please?

Spoke by phone to the woman at the centre and she has arranged a free appointment with the doctor next week. I explained I was not exactly flush with money and she said not to worry, they are trying to establish this centre and will do what they can for me, if I want to go ahead with any treatment, either acupuncture or herbs, at the lowest cost possible. Maybe it's so I tell others who will be able to pay more. Quite interested tho, so will give it a go. Liz

Anyone else tried it?

Liz - you don't need to clear your head to start meditating, honestly! If you can find even a few minutes to set aside and then concentrate solely on breathing slowly and evenly, really focussing on each moment of each breath and how it feels, the clear head will come. Really it will! Try it, please! :-)

Thanks for the input - I do believe in complementary and homeopathic practices and medicines and she was so spot on with several things without me saying a word. I will see what she says when she phones me Thursday evening - she said she had a retreat going on on Saturday where people could go and learn a bit of meditation, taichi and other things and she would try to sort out my chi for me and help me to practise that daily. Now I am hopeless at disciplining myself to do regular things and I have tried meditation before. I just cannot clear my head enough to meditate - have always had such a busy brain that never lets me rest. Will let you know how this pans out but if anyone else has thoughts or information, I would be interested to hear from you. I am open to all kinds of medicine and such. Thanks, Liz

About three years ago, my daughter went into a Chinese herbalists as she had been suffering for years with swollen ankles, wrists and bloatedness, and was also very anaemic. She spoke the the lady for quite a while about her health. The lady would not sell her anything but suggested she go to the doctor..............where, after several more months of my daughter insisting that everything was not as it should be, her GP referred her to the hospital. They were concerned enough to do several major tests including CT scans MRI's etc, etc. Subsequently, my daughter underwent major surgery for an operation on her bladder, kidney and urethal tube, which was related to a condition she had been born with, that the whole family, particularly her father and I, were totally unaware of. She's fine now but, I'm glad she encountered that particular lady. Jen

Hi PP, I really believe there is something to all this. I have had some treatment from a chinese medical centre. I had some acupuncture, combined with some truly awful herb/stick/twig type of tea. I felt better after the acupuncture, but couldn't keep drinking the crap. My step father suffers with really bad eczema...Nothing the doctor gave him worked, then my mum got something from the chinese centre, and he is fine now.. Yes it is expensive, but try your doctor, you could be surprised. Good luck. Kila xx

I have to admit to being sceptical - sounds like they want lots of return visits and £££££££££££££. However in defence I had acupuncture to start labour when expecting no 2 - it worked within 24 hours! Coincidence perhaps but unlikely as baby never engaged - 26 hours later. There was an interesting series on BBC2 about 6 months ago comparing conventional and holistic approaches. It seems in China it's completely normal practice to combine the two. The programme I watched showed conventional open heart surgery in conjunction with acupuncture in place of a general anaesthetic. Many sufferers of migraine/addictions swear by more holistic approaches. In your case I would perhaps approach a homeopath and GP without disclosing the previous diagnosis for a general checkup/MOT and compare results.

Today I was near a relatively new place in Norwich which calls itself a Chinese Medicine Practice (or words to the that effect) and there was an offer on of a free hand examination, rather like reflexology. I went in and when this Chinese lady examined my hand she got so many things spot on, my tiredness, difficult sleep patterns, head full of ideas and things to do with no energy to do it, and also some problems with my throat and neck (when I am really tired my voice goes husky and my neck gets so stiff I get tension headaches.) She also said I have fatty deposits in my liver, one kidney is not working so well as the other, and I have problems with some thing to do with my aorta. I have been having pains in my upper chest area for a while but the doctors say it is the fibromyalgia. She also said I have a lot of toxins in my body and I have felt for ages that I wanted to go away for a few days alone and do a real detox. She is going to phone me on Thursday evening to talk to me about everything again. Now how do I convince my doctor to take this seriously. I probably won't be able to afford to have any treatment through the Chinese clinic and am rather wary too. Has anyone else used Chinese medicine and how did you get on with it? Will be back on here later and hope some of you might have some feed back. Thanks, Liz
