The B.U.F.F.S. are indeed like the masons but less scary. They are a charity organisation and do loads of fund raising for different causes. I did a christmas dinner for our local B.U.F.F.S. and they were lovely old boys. But they take it very seriously.

The Buffs (if it's the same one) are a male organisation, a bit like the Masons, but a lot less scary.

According to family hearsay my Gran's 2nd husband and my Mum's Dad, became the secretary in an organisation called The B.U.F.F.S after he was retired out of the army, so far I can't find any reference to this organisation, it placed orphan children into new homes although not in an adoptive manner, I think it was an early form of fostering. Any help whatsoever would be most welcome. My original source of information (the children of George Twigg) are now all deceased, my Mum included. If it's any help he must have been the secretary between 1918 (when he married my Gran)and 1936(when he died). Thank you for taking the time to read this Jennifer
