Poor child. They do have vivid imaginations when young.

Must admit I wouldn't have been happy at such a fib. I've told my kids that mistakes are allowed, and I might be cross if they've done something silly, but I'll be hugely cross if they make up a story to cover up a genuine mistake. Angela

Amusing yes, but not an idea to condone lies in one so young. He obviously has a great imagination but should realise when to tell the truth. Coats aren't cheap - glad the teacher knew where it was.

My kids used to arrive home out of puff....chased home by wolves.....youngest ones bed had paws.......and a duck that lived under his bed.....all manner of weird and wonderful stuff. They are 30 and 26 now and perfectly normal well balanced adults. The wee fella probably thought he would be in bother so embellished, he will grow out of it, unless too much fuss is made.

I would be a little concerned that he needed to make up such an elaborate tale over something as trivial as losing his coat. If his coat was lost , would he have been in big trouble - ?

I think as long as you point out that in future you would expect him to tell the truth as clearly telling lies generally results in one getting found out and causing more trouble, you should not make a very big deal out of this. If however you have noticed that he has a tendency to lie in times of crisis you should talk more sternly to him - it could be a habit he may find hard to break in the future. Liz

Thanks all he would not have been in trouble if he had lost his coat most of the time he just wears the hood with coat hanging. Daughter sat him down after tea and talked to him about telling fibs and telling stories. Val
