I had a friend of a friend who invited me to stay in her basement flat just a short walk from Edinburgh castle and Princes street. The house was one of those huge Georgian places so you can imagine how large the rooms were in the basement, and so stylish, like something out of a posh magazine. Sadly, lost contact with Elaine as she moved out of Edinburgh and didn't stay in touch with my friend. Would love to go again, quite cheap flights from Norwich, maybe I should book somewhere and go, not while it's snowy tho. Makes me very nostalgic seeing Edinburgh mentioned. It's a wonderful city. |

Thanks all. I did find a place from the link William gave for undiscoveredscotland site. They offered me a room and breakfast for 3 people £60 which I thought sounded good but just phoned my mum and she has had a tumble and cant walk so she wont be going anywhere. She said she didnt want to phone me and worry me. This happened yesterday and now all he wrist is swollen and bruised and her leg hurts. She needs a stick to walk around indoors. So looks like my trip is about to be postponed. |

Could try a youth hostel. Won't find cheap in Edinburgh I'm afraid. Travel Lodge sometimes do a £10 room deal but you wouldn't get one in the city. Would prob have to go to the one at Mussleburgh on the city bypass so you would need a car. |

I have never flown so would probably like to keep my feet on the ground. If I book in advance I can buy 2 singles for about £17 each or if I buy a return it works out about £80. Which does not make sense to me but there you go. |

Have you considered flying up. My son flew to Edinburugh from Birmingham for £35, return. (BMI baby) Could be cheaper than the train and certainly quicker. Claire |

anybody recommend a cheap B&B in Edinburgh. I am seriously thinking of having a trip to new registry house. I can do it in a day but if the trains are delayed it would mess it all up so thinking of going up on day 1 and stopping overnight then going to NRH next day before travelling home again. I have a week of work so want to make the most of it. |
