actually I seemed to notice an increase in sparrows last year after they had been declining for some time. I will have to keep an eye out and let you know! Maz. XX |

Hi James We have quite a few in Norfolk, the house sparrows seemed to increase last year. The hedge sparrows disappeared last year and now they are back as well. |

Hi James, they are up here in lincolnshire,loads in my garden and in the little village where i shop. have a lovely woodpecker visiting ,and 2 enormous male pheasants,plus robins greenfinch blackbirds and starlings and wren and thrushes ringneck doves and wood pidgeon, blue and great tit,longtails too,.and at dusk a barn owl swoops across the field behind us,i had a barn owl fly across my car bonnet on the way home from work last week. we had fieldfare and redwings a few weeks back,i tend to watch the birds a lot,well it beats housework etc. best wishes wendy |

we heard a woodpecker the other day in a Lincolnshire wood. My mum also has a couple of robins in her garden in Lincolnshire |

James, Sparrows are grain eaters and there's probably not enough for them to eat on the streets of London now. They're probably in parks and gardens instead. When I lived in London many years ago, there were thousands of sparrows, but there probably aren's enough nesting sites now, with all the huge buildings that have gone up . Here in Herts, we get lots of them because I feed the birds, but our neighbour's cat, magpies and sparrowhawks all take their toll of the smaller ones. CB >|< |
