That show depicted exactly how things were in South London when I was growing up. Yes, there were tensions at times, but most of the time the vast majority of people got on very well. From my childhood, we shopped at local Caribbean shops and market stalls, and we had West Indian children at school in the 1950s. Thre were also West Indian people at the church and youth club I attended in my teens, and we all mixed well. These days, there's too much meddling in community relations by ill-informed outsiders who think ttheir sociology degrees give them right to dictate to everyone else how they should live alongside their neighbours. That was so funny, and it made a mockery of racism - as indeed it should. I think it should be repeated today, for that reason. I'd love to see it again. :-) |

I loved the show As said , it made a mockery of racism on both sides.... even though racism is not a laughable subject. It will never come back though, even though the racism is both sided in the show, someone, either white or black or multiracial will find it offensive. Elaine x LOVE THY NEIGHBOR Bing Crosby Love thy neighbor, Walk up and say 'How be ya Gee! But I'm glad to see ya, pal, How's tricks? What's new?' Love thy neighbor, Offer to share his burden, Tell him to say the word 'n' You will see him through Especially if there should be a beautiful girl next door, Say to that girl next door, don't think I'm bold But my mother told me to Love thy neighbor And you will find your labor, A great deal easier, Life'll be breezier If you Love Thy Neighbor |
